Show A6 CLIPPER Motorists will see change in Interstate 1 5 road work BY MEUNDA WILLIAMS Clipper Writer Motorists traveling through south Davis County will see a major change m road construction emphasis over the next month as crews install a concrete bamer and guardrail, leading to the opening of four lanes. Staker Paving and Construction, North the contractor for the Initial Phase will take four to five weeks installing the bamer and guardrails between Pages Lane in Centerville and U.S. 89. Once that is completed, the northbound lanes will be striped and four lanes opened. House Armed Services Committee has announced approval of two major quality of life construction projects for Hill Air Force Base. The projects were approved by the House Armed services Committee as part of the Fiscal Year 2000 Combined and Commissary Surcharge Nonappropnated Fund Construction Program. Funding for these projects is provided by the profits earned at military exchanges, commissaries and other recreational facilities. The projects approved are for an Addition to the Officers Club and a new retail shopping center. The total cost of these projects is $12.7 million. ; I am pleased with the committees support for these worthwhile projects. This new retail exchange facility and combined club are directly targeted at improving the quality of life for our military families. ' When combined with the pay raise and retirement reform package already approved, I hope this Congress has taken an important first step in reversing nearly a decade in declining retention and morale, said 1 Utah Congressman Jim Hansen. These new investments are also an important part of ensuring a strong and vibrant Hill Air Force Base for the future. Canal owners promise canal will run on time i - i LAYTON (AP) Shareholders of the Davis and Weber Canal Co. received more assurances recently they will have a breached canal repaired and running again in time to irrigate spring crops. But it may require some juggling for the first few weeks of the water season. Floyd Baham, canal company manager, said last week it probably will be necessary to pump water ffom the Weber Basin Water Conservancy Districts drought relief system for a time next spring to supplement the water flow while the cbmpany tests a new section of canal tp be built above Riverdale.
