Show i Clipper Today September 30, 7999 A9 Thursday, IBu'avGs amdl lAfiDcflca'Qs fface inn On ange cross -- ft uudu rivalry by ben de voe Clipper Today Sports Writer The Davis County rivalry that stems from the south side will be ignited once again on Friday. The games between Bountiful and Woods Cross have been somewhat lopsided as of late, with the Wildcats losing every game of the decade, but if it were that open and shut of a case, they wouldnt play the game. This year, the Braves are in the upper echelon of the state and a region that is down a bit this year. The Wildcats are on the up and up, but with a lackluster showing against Olympus last week they have a lot to iron out in a week if they hope to pull off this upset. The game will come down to this: The Wildcat offensive line against the pressuring and overwhelming defensive front of the Braves. The Wildcats didnt even attempt to block the Titans, who dissolved quarterback Mitch Malmrose and their running game quicker than r. Malmrose and wideout Matt Larsen are proven game breakers if given the room and time to operate. The Brave defense doesnt have a weak link. They have big athletic defensive ends, run plugging tackles, linebackers and a secondary that comes two Alka-Seltze- all-sta- te IFff up to support the run effectively. If there is one spot to try and exploit it is that secondary, which was torched the last time the Braves lost a game (Spnngville). The only way that is going to be possible is if the offensive line can stop the pressure from the front eight of the Braves. Another thing to look for is whether running back strong safety John Castlebury will be fully recovered from an injury for the Wildcats. If not look for the Braves to exploit him with waggle passes over the middle to tight end Casey Gubler, or to attack the corners with their customary option attack. Without support for the run from Castlebury, down hill running back Matt Ramos will rack up some massive yardage. If the Wildcats can stop Ramos, as Highland was able to do, than it will simply be up to Seth Patterson to work his magic. This game will be decided in the first quarter, as both teams have registered every one of their wins after being ahead in the first quarter. It will also be vital to the Wildcats who will need to play with all the emotion they can muster in hopes of catching a Brave team napping. If the Braves are up by more than a touchdown at the end of the quarter, look for a long night for the Cats. Centerville man finds success in bow hunt CENTERVILLE - With the regular season archery elk hunt coming to an end, Ricky Bangerter of Centerville had his hunting efforts pay off. bull after Ricky bagged a nice several with no success. The days expending earlier than usual archery season this year had made it much more challenging for archers to locate and work bull elk into the close proximity necessary to succeed with a bow and arrow. By the end of the season, a few elk had started bugling and were just beginning into their mating season. Ricky was hunting with his father, Rick Bangerter in a steep wooded canyon near Hefner, Utah. The father son duo located the bull and his herd of cows earlier in the day. By late afternoon, Ricky had completed his sneak into a position close to the herd. A combination of cow chirps got the herd bull within about 45 yards of Ricky's position. Fortuitous wind conditions, a shooting lane through the pines, and hours of practice and fine tuning his bow allowed Ricky success with his first arrow. Ricky had succeed in prior years in bagging a couple of smaller bulls, but his thrill with this Ricky Bangerter poses with a shot during this year's bow hunt. big guy is his best achievement yet.
