Tuesday students were coming and going but others were not sure which way they were coming from or going to They were saving Turn your back on drugs by wearing their shirts backwards for the day. And when they filled out the tobacco-fre- e worksheet, they received a sticker and a chocolate kiss. Wednesday it was hard to tell who was who with everyone wearing red or purple. Especially w hen they assembled at 10 am for each room to give the cheer thev had wntten for the week and link together The motto this day was Link up to fight against drugs not each other Later Wednesday the entire school assembled on the play ground to see what would fall from the sky As an air j n The four skydivers had purple ribbon streamers flowing from their bodies as they fell from the skv Wallace asked if the kids knew what the color purple (or red) symbolized and many students hands went up to answer FI A member. Photo by Elsie Hall 28 Layton High students recognized as AP Scholars f I LAYTON Twenty eight students at Layton High School have been named AP Scholars by the College Board m recognition of their exceptional achievement on the college-level AP Examinations 23 percent of Approximately America's graduating seniors have taken one or more AP Examinations. Only about 13 percent of the more than 700.000 students who took AP Examinations in May 1999 performed at a high level to merit such recognition The College Board recognizes several levels of achievement based on the number of year long classes and exams Four students qualified for the AP Schol ir with Distinction Award by ea'iung an a wage gnle of at lea t 3.5 on all AP exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. These students are Matthew Clemens, Kvle Dittmer. Matt Pierce and Jacob Umbnaco. Seven students qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award by earning an average grade of 3 5 on all AP exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams These students are- Ashley Airmet, Dannelle Johnson. Matthew New bold, Robin Plachy, Bret Prall, Stephanie Smtker and Brad Stephens Seventeen students qualified for the AP Scholar Award by completing three or more AP exams with grades l of 3 or higher.
