Two freshmen from Kaysville Junior have also looked great so Larsen and Clytie Taylor. Also vying for those top seven positions will be Amy Allred, a junior who ran track for Davis last spring, and juniors Emily Hunter and Emily is cross cross school in as high country, country, and the local season is just getting underway for all four area high schools. Upcoming events include the annual Davis County Clipper Invitational on Oct. 9, plus region and state meets culminating in the finals at Sugarhouse Park in late October. Here's a look at the individual school teams, in alphabetical order. Country Clipper far--Ki- m Brown. VIEWMONT: After so many years of dominating the sport locally and statewide, Coach Lynn Dubois' Vikings are a bit down this year, but don't count them out. Viewmont has always possessed a competitive spirit in cross country. Returning to help last year's second place state finishers are seniors Phil Stoddard, ninth at state a year ago, and Steve Thompson, who had an outstanding track season last year. From there, Dubois said it's a "cast of others." Mitch Wileys Braves return three outstanding seniors from last year as the fall season begins. Matt Lawrence, Nate Jones and Ryan Dryer. Each could be a factor as Bountiful encounters powerful Davis and Viewmont in Region 2. Also expected to become a major force for Bountiful is senior Shawn Walpole, an 800 meter runner last spring who is coming out for distance for the first time. Also returning are juniors Jon Jackson and Tom Wilding, both of whom are coming back from minor injuries and who should get stronger as the year progresses. BOUNTIFUL: Leading the way towards earning varsity berths are seniors Tyler Keate and Phil Woods, and Centerville Junior ninth grader Trent Hooper. "All of our others are basically untested at this point, but with a few surprises, we can get back to where we want to be," Wiley will also look to seniors Sherm and Hadley Ryan McDermott, along with sophomore Matt Knight and two ninth graders Jones of who've shown well--ErMillcreek Junior and Russell Wilding of Mueller Park Junior. The Lady Braves are a bit thin right now, with many unproved runners working to establish themselves. Bountiful does have returning juniors Jenna Howick and Michelle Martin back in the fold, both of whom contributed a year ago. Junior Jenni Rosqvist and sophomore Melissa Hubbert have looked good, and senior Heidi Westergard, a star on the Bountiful girls' soccer team, plans to run as well as her schedule permits. The Lady Wildcats will be paced by junior Erin Shaw, the number two runner from last fall who showed well in region meets. Woods Cross also received a bonus when senior Rachel Smith moved in from California and chose to run this fall. Also looking good thus far is sophomore Lisa Henrie. of the best teams we've had." Leading the way are junior Jill Johansen, sixth in state a year ago, sophomore . Merilee Brown and senior Jolynn Hogge. Also looking very impressive thus far are senior Nanette Smith, who is coming back from an injury; senior Derika Bounds, a transfer student from Washington state, and junior Amy Hawkes, out for the first time. If they stay healthy, the Lady Vikes could go a long way this year. Region meets begin in earnest WOODS CROSS: Coach Todd Posselli, a former prep runner over Weber.
