A1 Falkner's battalion was instrumental in the government in Iraq by helping organize elections for when the people are ready for the democratic process. His unit provided logistics support and security. He helped train new Iraqi police officers. a task he is uniquely qualified to perform, as he is police-traine- d himself. He's anxious to become a policeman when his active duty is complete. Falkners brother is also a police officer, and his stepfather has served in the Army. Two other brothers also serve in the military, one in the Air Force at Hill Air Force Base, the other in the Army. The entire family has a legacy of civil service, and Falkner is no exception. I told my mother not to feel sad about me if I died; I would rather die than not to have served my country at all, Falkner said. The sacrifices have been difficult. Falkner describes the heat and his crowded sleeping conditions on a one-inc- h thick pad, sweating all night.
