Show TWO SESSIONS OF D 0 T I 1 preparations separations pr epa rations for exposition schools of the county well represented jan being the day for the regular monthly meeting of the D C T I 1 a goodly number gathered at the academy building in farmington prof augsburg was sick and unable to attend his word having been sent to supt bupt willey too late for him to notify tha teachers in time to prevent the meeting hence all were quite disappointed tile the superintendent called the meeting to order and a few hours hour were spent in discussing matters pertaining to the exhibits the davis co schools are to make at the worlds World stair fair it was decided to meet again in two weeks as prof augsburg had intimated that he would be able to attend at that time jan 1893 the teachers met according to appointment prof augsburg being present went ahead with his lesson in drawing on examining the drawings made by the teachers the prof expressed himself well satisfied with most of the work some of the teachers had done but little A few drawings were placed on the board for the most advanced to draw and while they were thus engaged the prof called the to one side and went carefully over the first principles again this repetition was of great value to some of the teachers who had not been present on other occasions during the course of the lesson the prof remarked that the greatest part of life was spent in separating difficulties and over coming a piece at alime this must be done in all work he who is an adept at separating difficulties so as to over come a part at a time is the best beet successful in life the special object of school work is to show how the above idea may be put into practice to illustrate that we must proceed in this way the prof said in mul ti we do not multiply the whole of a large number at once but take one figure at a time in adding we do not add all its columns at once but one at a time it is the same in teaching language geography or any other subject the work must be properly separated and a part mastered at a time slime picture working lends bends an interest to draw drawing ing though one must m not hasten to picture working but seek first to under stand the principals that underlie all drawing the prof placed on the board a drawing of a large ledge of rocks showing that although the edges were all rough and broken that large portions had slipped out here and there to make such a drawing the principles that had been already given to the lass class must be understood der stood and serve as a guide the prof showed how bow an intense interest could be awakened in the our schools by placing every rude drawing such as of animal life on them such as the head bead of a sheep of a bear of 0 a man etc in drawing we must depend on our judgement jud gement rather than on any set rules as there are but very few rules that do not have exceptions abaye all the way to learn drawing is to draw and keep drawing we like to do that at which we succeed so it is with all mankind all you need to succeed in drawing is to try there is not on one e teacher in ten thousand but that can learn to draw in fact said the prof fessor I 1 believe it if any teacher cannot learn to draw lie he ought be riot not allowed to teach LESSON TO RE BE DRAWN AT BOMB 1st ast draw a large culle cube and to the me center of each face add ashall cube 2nd and draw a large larg e cube and from aach corner each edge and the center of each fadeout face out a small mu cube 3rd ard draw a large cube and irony from each edge cut a square prism tl alc i lengst of that edge draw the above problems in five different positions viz a below to the left of the eye b below to the right of the eye c above to the left of the eye d above to th the 0 right of the eye e directly in I 1 in front of the eye one long lesson of about three hours had bad been held and prof augsburg accompanied by miss kimball a salt lake teachers teacher now bid the class adieu expecting to catch the U P freight train fo for salt lake city A short discussion then followed on matters pertaining to the school exhibits and the meeting adjourned for two weeks nearly all the districts of the co were represented thus malting making a large attendance thus the teachers are being taught and the work of goes on J P TERRY P S having been left by the freight train prof augsburg and his bis beloved returned from the depot just before all the teachers had left the Acad meny building they and the writer were invaded and partook of the hospitality of prof M E abbott after which a buggy ride was enjoyed as for as bountiful where the prof and his darling companion awaited the six dummy for salt lake |
