M Smoot explained that plans include construction of two hospitals to serve the rapidly growing population of Davis County The Davis County Commission and Hospital Advisory Committee told of the results of a survey conducted by Dr Frank Johnson Associate Professor of Marketing in the College of Business at the University of Utah IT SHOWED DAVIS COUNTY is the fastest growing area arear r on the Wasatch Front The survey also indicates many other factors which demonstrate the need for improved hospital facilities and the ability of the county to provide them The rapid population growth has been accompanied by a comparable comparable comparable com com- parable Increase in property valuation Davis County residents have the highest percentage of paid up health insurance programs in the state the study showed r THE NUMBER OF RESIDENTS in Davis County has doubled doubled dou- dou bled In the last 15 years to a present level of per- per sons It is expected to reach in 1975 in 1980 and at the beginning of the century Based on these population figures Davis County needs hospital beds at the present time In 1975 It will need beds with comparable increasing needs as the population 1 r grows J j THE NEED FOR HOSPITAL facilities will become even more acute with the announced relocation of St. St Marks Mark's hospital hospital hospital hos hos- pital which has provided hospital service for Davis County residents for many years Since Davis County has two major centers of population the north Davis area and the south Davis area the survey recommends mends two hospitals be constructed THE HOSPITAL ADVISORY Committee under the chairmanship chairmanship chairmanship chair chair- manship of Dr Hampton H. H Davis County Health Officer has investigated many possible site locations and has recommended the purchase of two sites for the proPosed proposed pro- pro i posed new hospitals A tract of land between Layton and Clearfield has been selected for the north Davis hospital This site is situated on Syracuse Road between Interstate 15 and Highway 91 It was chosen because it is near the center of the north Davis population has good access utilities and is in a I prominent location in the area SITE FOR THE PROPOSED new south Davis hospital is near East and South in Bountiful adjacent to the I 4 present Community Hospital The existing bed 74 hospital will continue in its present role as a general hospital until the new hospital is completed ed and opened for service It will then become a part of the total hospital complex as a long term care unit THE CITIZENS' CITIZENS MEETING Thursday night was the kickoff kickoff kickoff kick- kick off of a public information program which will be climaxed by a million bond election on June 4 If the bond election is successful detailed planning for forthe forthe forthe the buildings will begin immediately Construction is scheduled scheduled scheduled sched- sched to st start rt in the spring of 1970 Opening of the new hospitals hospitals hospitals hos hos- is expected in 1972 THE PROPOSED HOSPITAL construction program has the endorsement of the Wasatch Regional Planning Council and will be built under the Hill-Burton Hill with Program ap approval approval approval ap- ap of the Utah State Department of Health and the US U.S. Public Health Service Various details of the program the need population growth in the county the proposed sites and financing were discussed by Commissioner Smoot Dr G. D Newman fiscal agent AN EXCHANGE OF QUESTIONS and answers between the citizens who attended the meeting and members of the Hospital Advisory Committee indicated a general awareness awareness awareness aware aware- ness of the growing need for hospital facilities facUlties Mr Holt Hoit said members member of the committee will be available to visit the various civic groups service clubs and other interested groups in Davis County to explain the program in detail and enlist the support of the people AFTER A THOROUGH review of all factors relating to needs financing construction staffing personnel and medical staff it has been concluded that the proposed hospital construction program is most timely to meet the needs of a rapidly growing population CommissionerS moot said The Davis County Commission and Davis County Library Board announce a new total library concept following two years of study and alterations in library services WITH WIT THE ADDITION OF school library services as aswell aswell aswell well as Bookmobile services they announce the building of two additional regional libraries A new regional library will serve the south area of Davis County to be located at South Main Street in Bountiful The new regional library for the north Davis area will be located adjacent to the proposed hospital site east on Syracuse Syra Syra- case cuse Road now designated as Antelope Drive between Highway Highway High High- way 91 and Interstate 15 1 Freeway SCHEDULE FOR CONSTRUCTION will be Davis County south branch set for 1969 opening and Davis County north northbranch northbranch northbranch branch 72 1971 opening These facilities will be designed to serve as cultural centers as there will be located on the lower floors an as assembly assembly assembly as- as hall and meeting area FINANCING IS BEING planned through the present mill levy with 50 per cent of these costs being contributed through the Utah State Library Board under the direction of Russell Davis Utah State Library Director The approximate size of these structures will be square feet and they will have all the modern conveniences for library services |
