Im excited about the win, but to be honest, this was the dirtiest game Ive ever been involved with, said Viewmont head Shawn coach Johnson. Cottonwood is a talented team but for some reason several of their players started taking cheap shots by punching and kicking my kids. The officials failed to control the game and by the end of the match, things were out of hand. Viewmont played well early and held a 1 halftime advantage with two goals from Andy Patterson and one from Shawn Reese. In the second half, Viewmont continued fending off Cottonwood as the Colts became more physical. However, Chad Morris sealed the Viking victory with a goal. Scott (Hoth) and Jack (Hartvigsen) had an outstanding game for us as did goalie Jon (Clark), said Johnson. Im just proud of these kids for how they handled themselves. That is how Bountiful Head Soccer Coach Mike Parker 2 overtime victory explained the Brave over Highland. It was like the Viewmont game only we didnt have to go to a shootout. We dominated the game, but we had trouble scoring in regulation, he said. We seem to get the ball down by the goal but couldnt finish. When the going got tough, the kids fought to get a goal. Their attitude is we arent going to lose and they arose to the occasion. Bountiful's Josh Robbins converted a penalty kick at the end of regulation to force an overtime. The controversial call came after Robbins was shoved on a comer kick in the waning minutes of the game. Josh was pushed out of the way. The ref said he warned the Highland kid before the play. The Deseret Nes published a picture of Josh in full flight with- the defender clearly pushing him, Parker said of the play which Highland protested. The play calling was OK, but they (the officials) 3-- - 3-- 2 OT victory didn't control the kids very well. There was a near fight and nobody was carded. It would be nice to play soccer and not have somebody running up your back. In overtime, the Rams struck first on a controversial penalty kick. A few minutes later when the Braves' Matt Smith was fouled hard near the marker and was not awarded a penalty kick, Parker took Smith out of the game for a short breather to calm him down, I told him not to get even by getting mad, but to get even by scoring, Parker asserted. He went in and scored immediately to rd tie up the game. Smiths heroics, Robbins Following scored the game winner with five minutes remaining in the overtime period. It was the strangest goal I have ever seen. We bounced it off either the goal or the keeper, Josh and a Highland kid rolled on the ground, and Josh kind of rolled it into the goal with his body, Parker explained. They (Highland) went crazy over it - it looked more like wrestling than soccer. The victory kept Bountiful perfect in Region 2 with a 0 record. Bountiful will close out the first half of the region schedule when they play Skyline on the road today at 3:30 p.m. All-St- ar 4-- |
