Show mm mi CLASS SCHEDULE By PAUL CHALLIS News Editor BOUNTIFUL The Police Department portion of the general fund of the proposed Bountiful fiscal budget is up 13 percent over last e officers to combat year to help fund two gang violence in local schools. full-tim- The proposed budget for the Police Department is $2.4 million for 1994-9- 5 over $2.1 million for last year of the total $8.4 million general fund projections. The two full-tim- e police officers is a combination plan between the Bountiful City and the Davis School District. The plan calls for one of the officers to be funded by each entity. The joint venture in Bountifuls junior highs and high schools is an attempt to curb gang violence and youth related crimes. The two officers will split time between the three high schools, Bountiful High, Viewmont High and Woods Cross High and the area junior highs, Mueller Park Junior, South Davis Junior, Millcreek Junior and Bountiful Junior High. The two officers will split their time at the different schools depending on the need and demand, Police Chief Larry Higgins said. We are currently seeing more problems developing in the junior highs than the high schools. The school district is also in the process of budgeting for the next fiscal year and Higgins said the plan of funding to two additional officers is also part of the districts goal. They are in the same place as far as the budget goes. It is a great program and one that has benefited the city as a part-tim- e project, Higgins said. There is a real need for this program and a real problem (gangs) out there. City Manager Tom Hardy agreed with Higgins adding, The gangs problems needs to be nipped in the bud now before it gets out of hand.
