PRENATAL CARE: Reva Beck Bosone, Utah Women, and the U.S. Congress is the topic of a brown bag lunch lecture presented by Weber State University Professor Emeritus Jean Bickmore White on Thursday. Sept. 16, at noon at the White Memorial Chapel. Reva Beck Bosone. Utah's first female member of the United States Congress, gained her first legislative experience by serving two terms in the Utah House of Representatives. There she served as the first woman majority party floor leader, learning the art of shaping legislation and winning support for her ow n legislative goals. Her high visibility in government, however, was gained when she served as a Salt Lake science. She has also studied constitutional and civil rights law in a post-doctor- seminar at Princeton University and on sabbaticals at the London School of Economics and the University of Utah College of Law. She is a member of the Utah Constitutional Revision Commission. Utah's political and constitutional development are among her main interests. An award-winnin- writer of g numerous articles on Utah's political history, including one about Utah's first women legislators, she is the author of The Utah Constitution: A Reference Guide, published in 1998, Charter for Statehood The Story of Utah's State Constitution, published in 1997 and was editor of Church, State, and Politics: The Diaries of John Henry Smith, published in 1990. City-judge- - Although she was sometimes called the hanging judge, she gained wide respect from the public for her efforts to improve traffic safety, which probably helped her win the congressional race. In 1948 she was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. She was reelected in 1950 in a contest with another woman. Ivy Baker Priest, who later became the Treasurer of the United States. Her bid for a third term in 1952 failed. But in the 1960s she again resumed her law career by serving as the chief judicial officer of the U.S. Post Office Department. While concentrating on Reva g Beck Bosone and her State Utah in the both career, Legislature and in the Congress, Dr. White will also speak about Karen Shepherd and Enid Greene, who also of House in the served Representatives, as well as provide some facts and figures about Utah women in the legislature and their accomplishments. Jean Bickmore White is an political science professor emeritus at Weber State University; where she taught classes in state and local government and constitutional law.
