Fire district welcomes Treddie' to force By JUDY JENSEN BOUNTIFUL Thanks to the efforts of the Women's Auxiliary, the South Davis Fire District has added a new recruit. "Freddie," a remote control vehicle, will be used as an instructional tool in schools and during fire station tours. "Freddie" made his debut on the Labor Day Telethon and was a big hit with the youngsters and the adults. He is painted to match his big brothers, his body is white with blue pinstriping. Chief Brent Argyle said the department plans: to build "Freddie" his own miniature minia-ture fire station on the back of a trailer so he may be transported easily. "We have to keep him safe," he laughed. "Freddie" is equipped with a siren and overhead lights, and the ability to squirt water, which delights de-lights the children. His nose houses a microphone, and when he is asked questions by the crowd, the answers are heard through the mic-rophone. mic-rophone. Firefighters Paul Richards, who handles public instruction in-struction for the district, will usually usual-ly be the voice of "Freddie" although he will not be seen by the spectators. Chief Argyle said "Freddie" will be used almost every day by the district. With fire prevention week coming in October, he feels "Freddie" "Fred-die" will be in great demand. The addition of "Freddie" to the force allows the district to enhance its community education programs. Hundreds of hours of work were donated by the wives of firefighters to earn the money needed to purchase purch-ase "Freddie." The Women's Auxiliary Au-xiliary sponsored the Fireman's Ball and sold over 1000 Easter eggs to raise the $3,200. Tammy Timothy, secretary treasurer of the organization, said she and her co-workers were very happy that they could bring such a valuable teaching tool to the citizens of Davis County. This is the first year the women have had an auxiliary, and she said they plan to continue in their efforts to improve im-prove the South Davis Fire District. Dis-trict.
