Show DEATH SUMMONS LAMAR associate justice of supreme court succumbs after long illness i washington jpseph rucker lamar associate justice of the supreme court of the united states died at his home here sunday night after an illness of several months he was GS 63 years old and had been on the supreme bench five years the immediate cause of death was gradual heart failure hastened by inflammation flam mation of one of the lungs which had threatened to develop into pneumonia associate justice joseph rucker lamar had the distinction of being one of the few members of the court appointed by a president of op opposite poste political faith president taft appointed him in 1910 with only two precedents for such action those of justice jackson and lurton justice lamar was born in Ruc luckers ruckers kers ville elbert county ga october 14 1857 lie he attended the university ot of georgia and later bethany college where he was graduated in 1877 he attended the law school at washington and lee university and was admitted to the bar at augusta ga ca in 1818 ile he lived at au augusta usla until appointed to the supreme court bench in the practice of the law he larg largely ely represented railroads and other big corporations and yet in the day of antipathy to corporation lawyers hla his integrity was so highly regarded that the senate without delay confirmed his bis nomination |
