Show EX GOV CURTIS DEAD A prominent figure in the early life of the west boise ida dec SO ex governor edward J curtis died at his home in this city this morning at after a brief illness from la ia grippe the flags on all the public buildings were placed at half mast in honor of the dead he had been confined to his bed for about a week but he was at no time thought to be dangerously ill he arose at about 3 this morning saying that he felt better and after fixing the ire fire went back to bed about an hour later mrs curtis noticed that his breathing had ceased and that her husband was dead the deceased wa was 9 a member of the bar association and also a member of the odd fellows lodge of this city the funeral will be held friday afternoon biographical edward J curtis was born in worcester mass 68 years ago he graduated at princeton college and emigrated to california in 1818 and studied law in the office of chief justice murray I ite he te was twice a member r of the california legislature and later removed to oregon where he served one term ss as state representative he went to i city nev and formed a law partnership with thomas pitch fitch governor curtis located in silver city ida in 1864 he was appointed territorial secretary in 1869 by president grant serving six years and was act ing governor the greater portion of this term he was vas re appointed territorial secretary by president arthur in 1885 and again by president harrlson harrison in 2889 and served till the advent of the state officers jn in november 1890 |
