Show E. Lamar Parkin feted during 80th birthday The children of E. Lamar Parkin honored him at his daughter's home in Salt Lake City for his 80th birthday. He was born Dec. 3, 1907 in Salt Lake City. He was the eldest of seven children. He married Mary Soffe in the Salt Lake Temple Sept. 1, 1933. They are parents of four children, Mary Lou Parkin, Fremont, Fre-mont, Calif.; Dr. James L. Parkin, Salt Lake City; Bonnie Lee Sampson, Samp-son, Danville, Calif, and Rheanna Lyn Pelton, Salt Lake City. Lamar served in the Davis County Coun-ty Schools, both elementary and secondary as teacher and principal. Served as head of Davis County pupil personnel and started the first exceptional school in the county, a total of 39 years. He was acting postmaster for Bountiful for 2'2 years; during that time door to door mail delivery was started. Lamar was honored as an outstanding out-standing educator. He also received re-ceived the outstanding citizens award for service from Bountiful City in 1980. He served two terms on Bountiful City Council and was chairman of the South Davis Sewer District for 13 years and served six years on the power board. Lamar was active in the LDS church all of his life as teacher, coach and in stake positions and the bishopric. He was active in the scouting program serving as county commissioner, merit badge counselor, counse-lor, and on the Eagle board of review. re-view. He received his B.S. degree from E. LARMAR PARKIN the University of Utah graduating with honors, also his master's degree de-gree and counselor's certificate. Attending the party were his daughter Mary Lou from California, Califor-nia, James and Bonnie and sons Matthew and David, Salt Lake; Bonnie and Ralph Sampson, California; Cali-fornia; Rheanna Lyn and Richard Pelton and sons Darren and Jason, Salt Lake City; sisters, Elva Tauf-er, Tauf-er, San Francisco, Calif.; Fay Geurts, Bountiful and sister-in-law, Anne S. Buchanan, Manti; brother, Wayne T. Parkin, San Francisco, Calif, was unable to attend. He has 11 grandchildren and two god-grandchildren god-grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren. |
