Until late last night It wan as good as settled that a resolution prepared for presentation by Senaator' Dubois would be adopted by the committee In aplte of the best efforta of Senator Cannon, Committeeman Perry and all the members of the Utah delegation, who were a unit against any mention of the question In the platform. The Dubois resolution was as follows: Recent Investigations before the committee on privileges and elections of the United States senate having shown the vital connection between church and state, with the church In complete control, which obtains in a large part of our country under Mormon domination, also the humiliation of womanhood and the destruction of the American Ideal of home In connection with the same. We, therefore, pledge the Democratic party to the advocacy of such an amendment to the constitution of the United States as will authorise congress to pass such national legislation as may be necessary to punish and suppress polygamy and unlawful cohabitation within the United States and all territory subject to Its Jurisdiction. We demand the separation of church and state In political affairs. After hours of conference and argument Senator Dubois agreed to the modification of the resolution so as to abandon any reference to a constituIts tional amenditient and confine terms as given. A canvass of the situation showed Senator Dubois was In position to carry the resolutions committee on any proposition he would urge. Senator Bailey of Texas, Senator Clark of Arkansas, David B. Hill of New York and a number of other equally Influential leaders said openly they would back Dubois with this situation before them. The Utah delga-tio- n decided they would make a final effort to eliminate the whole question from discussion If possible, but If the committee on resolutions reports the amended resolution to the convention, there will be no fight on the floor of the convention! since a fight would probably result In still more radical action by the convention. After this was settled the delegation adopted the unit rule, elected Joseph Monson of Cache as and decided to cast Utah's six votes for Parker. George W.
