HOSE AT A plague of coyotes has infested the eastern shore of the Grgat Salt lake from the western shore and has given the Bheepinen all kinds of trouble to protect the lambs from the rapacity of the animals. The manner in which the coyotes cross the bike from Promontory is described by Mr. Joseph Peery, who is materially interested in the sheep business at Little mountain, as follows: Since the completion of the Lucin cutoff the northern part of the lake has become comparatively fresh and at points freezes. The animals come part of the way on the railroad embankment and then cross the Ice to the eastern shore. At one time the coyotes were very numerous on the eastern shore, but arlous means were adopted to exterminate them and with success. To prevent the devastation of his flocks Mr. Peery hired two extra night herders and offered a bounty of $1 for every coyote killed. As the county pays a bounty of $1.50 and the pelt brings $1, thus coyotes coming from that section are now worth $3.50 per n quintette of laborers from the this rourt were in police cut-oor vagrancy. morning on charges Janies McManii had only come In yeswas a flunkey terday; John Hanna Fred Stylus "was the had fever; and too stupid to be a criminal.- in the Gordon language of the court; Thomas John and clothea came In to buy some a workingman. like Simmons seemed Lu-ci- A ff All of them were released on condition that they go out and go to work. Mr. Peery reports that the lambing season has been unusually good, there being an Increase of over 100 per cent. The lambing season is about three weeks earlier at the Little mountain and Warren camps than at Blue Creek and Promontory on the other side of the lake. Just as soon as the time arrives when the flocks can he herded into camp and under the supervision of the herders the coyote John Doe Eastman Is in Jail at the request of his wife. He is formally charged with disorderly conduct. His ife wants him placed under bonds to keep the peace. He Is accused of getting drunk and then making things lively in the family circle on his return to the bosom of his family. Last night he was giving his little girl a merry chase. He made a plea of not guilty and the trial was fixed for this evening. His wife will be summoned to appear, but Eastman says she is not well enough to attend.
