StewHi-- t the members of the Prohibition National committee went Into session at the Auditorium hotel this morning for the purpose of deciding upon the date and place for holding the luirty's national convention next year. The national convention of the Prohibitionists always draws a large crowd and hs a consequence the convention is sought by many cities. It Is an open fight this year with more than half a dozen cities arming the contestants. Chicago, of course, is regarded as a strong competitor, and St Louis is another city that Is frequently mentioned us a likely meeting place for There appears, however, to be a strong sentiment among the committeemen In faor of holding the convention In some smaller city. The supporters of this Idea argue that If the Prohibitionists meet in the same city as either the Republican or Democrats they will he obliged to take second place and will not receive ns much attention as they would if the convention were held elsewhere. There ore a number of smaller and well locuted cities bidding for the convention nnd if the aenitment against Chicago and Ft. Louis prevnils a fine field for the choice of a suitable meeting place still remains. Among the cities mentioned, and all of which have delegations on hand urging their claims, are Indianapolis, Columbus, Detroit, Kansas City and Minneapolis. Baltimore and Buffalo also are In the race, but some of the committeemen oiqiose their claims on the ground that the selection of a city more centrally located would be more to the interests of the party. Talks with leading Prohibitionists In attendance on the meeting indicate thnt the party intends to put up a strong race In the next presidential The lust election showed campnlgn. losses for the party in several of their former strongholds, but It is claimed thnt these have been more than counterbalanced by the strong temperance sentiment lately developed in Texas and several other states. No mention of possible candidates Is heard. Following the established custom the party probably will name a western man for president nnd an eastern man as his running mate on the ticket. Long campaigns have been the rule of the Prohibitionists, the purty being the first in the field with their ticket Following this custom the national convention probably will be held In March or April of next year, which will be at least a month In advance of the national conventions of the Social Democrats nr other minor parties. the Prohibitionists. 10, New Groceries 1903, COAL lb....f New Buckwhaat Flour, 10 50; 25 j New Corn Mal, 10 Iba OUR TON IS A8 BIG AS A Naw Mapla Byrup, per gal..75e to 1 AO TON CAN BE. 25 New Canned Corn. 2 can TELEPHONE 18 X. . 3 .. 25.
