I have absolutely nothing to say on that subject, he replied. There was a romance In the marriage of Colonel Cody to the woman from whom he ia now likely to be legally separated. It all happened years ago, when he was in the service of the Cody government as a young scout was the daughter of a wealthy St Louis family. Cody was in Bt Louis, riding up Chouteau avenue on a charger, looking handsome in all the glory of his picturesque young manhood. A bunch of soldiers were annoying a crowd of girls, threatening to shear their heads, etc. Cody stopped Just long enough to ascertain what waa going on. Quick as a flash he dismounted and thrashed two of the soldiers soundly. Then he escorted the girls to their respective homes, which happened to be In the neighborhood nearby. This instance of chivalry and Bill Cody Is a cavalier still led to acquaintance. Acquaintance finally led to a wedding. And the bride waa one of the girls who was rescued from the taunts of the unmanly soldiers. Friends who knew of that pretty romance In old Bt. Louis and of the tender devotion that for so many years characterised the married life of Colonel Cody, look with deep regret upon the fact that now, In their declining years, a cloud of unhappiness has settled over them.
