Is Found in California I 1' Emil Holden of Redding believe, he hae discovered the ruins of an ancient city that I11 the early prehistoric days existed within the coniines of the present Trinity county. While digging a small prospect hole Holden's pick uncovered a grinning skull that loosened by'hU pick, rolled off a few feet. The skull was near the surface of the ground, barely beneath the crust. Holden thought this might possibly be a portion of the skeleton of an Indian who had burled there or on unfortunate who had been lost on tbe mountain top. Investigating further he encountered what appeared to be the painted top of a square concrete column. Holden .was surprised to find this and dug deeper. The column was Intact for several feet down, and wnen a couple of feet below the surface he encountered what appeared to be a wall of the same concrete formation. He followed along for a distance of about 400 feet. To all appearances he had encountered what was at one time one side of a broad street, and the concrete ruins are evidently those of a series of buildings that lined the thorough- though one or two are In a perfect state of preservation. The discovery of the wall, ruins, skulls snd tools gives every indication that Holden hae in reality found the rulna of some ancient village or city. It la possible that when the city flourished It was located on level ground, and that Inter eruptions raised the mountain and part of the ruins were carired up with It. The particular spot had never been traversed by man until Holden prospected there, and this accounts for the discovery at this late day. Mr. Holden brought a section of this concrete wall to Redding. Within ninety days, it is announced, a 9100,000 plant for the manufacture of tempered copper will be In ull operation In Denver. The formation of the Colorado Tempered Metal Manufacturing company has been going quietly on for the post few months, and the details are now completed. The incorporation papers are ready for filing. An expert will leave for the east this week to purchase machinery for tne new plant, which will be erected In Denver. The plant will have a capacity of producing live tons of copper a day at tbe outset and will be Increased ae occasion demands. The tempering of copper was known to the Egyptians and the art died with the ancient builders of the pyramids. Since then scientists of all ages have striven to rediscover the lost art Many tests have been made of tools of the ancients exhumed from the ruins of burled cities, but they could not be forced to give up the secret David Lamon, who claims that be has invented or discovered a process of tempering copper similar to that used by the ancients. Is a jeweler and has been a resident of Denver for many years. He claims that ne can temper copper to the hardness of steel and in addition to this he has lately made the claim that he can also temper silver so that it can be put to other purposes that those now In vogue. It Is claimed by the promoters of the company that ordinary copper wire can be treated by this process so that a saving of 50 per cent can be realised as against the tintempered wire. In addition to this the plant will be capable of reducing pig copper to wire, treated by the new process. The Lamon process has been tested by George H. Sethman, an electrical engineer In Denver. Mr. Sethman. according to his report to the company, believes the claims of the originator of the process are founded on facte. After preparing to manufacture copper wire it Is the Intention of tbe company to manufacture tempered tubes for water tube boilers In marine and stationary work. In fact, the field Is said to be a large one, ranging from cutlery to the largest ateam engines and boilers manufactured, as well as other machinery. There la said to be practically no limit to Us use. Cured Sciatica. I was much afflicted with sciatica," writes Ed C- - Nud, Iowavllle,, Sendg-wic- k Co..
