It was stated today at headquarters that no particular significance attached to the gathering here, but that the visits of the various gentlemen happened to be coincident. J. 11. Young, superintendent of the Southern Pacific, with headquarters at Oakland was here this morning In hi private car on hi way to Salt Lake City, where he was formerly located. Superintendent Young. It was given out. was going to the Utah capital for a visit. J. M. Davis. general superintendent of the Oregon Short Line, was also here this morning, on hta return to Salt Lake City, after visiting Chicago, where ha attended the meeting of the motive power men of the Harrtman lines. Ik It. Gray, general diatrld freight and passenger agent of the Southern Pat tile, was up from Salt Lake City looking after freight buainrra. Mr. Gray thinks that freight condttiona are as giod as could be expected at this time and that traffic Is steadily increasing and business picking up. T. J. Duddleaon, auiierintendent of the Nevada Northern railroad at Kly waa here last night, slopping only a abort time, on hie way to Salt Lake City. J. F. Dunn, auiierintendent of motive power and machinery of the llarriman lines with headquarters at Salt Lake City, was also here this morning. Superintendent Dunn waa returning from the Chicago motive power and transportation meeting of the Harrtman officials. J. A. Sherwood brought the following suggestions and questlona to the County Attorney" to the State Journal office today. A few suggestions for the benefit of our county attorney, who wants evidence" that gambliug houses exist in Ogden. It would appear that the beat way to get evidence Is to go after It. and the way to earn the people's money is by working for tt or attempting to do something in return for the monthly salary attached to the Job. It would seeiu that any exertion on the part of the county attorney would Inform hlin that monthly flnea or forfeitures are being left with the desk sergeant of the police court In this city for the privilege of conducting gambling houses In Ogden, and that that has been going on almost from time Immemorial, at least, during all of the time of tha present county attorney's tenure of office. In addition to the above, a few questlona: Have not the offlclala of Weber county had ample evidence during the wst seventeen years tnat gambling wav a living Issue, and not behind locked doors In this rlty? Have the ieople of Weber county capable, fearless men at the helm, or are they of tha can't aort? Now, Mr. County Attorney, do business, or stop explaining why you can't." Respect fully submitted, 1. F. SHERWOOD." BUTCHERS IRE NOT . ROOSTING MEAT PRICES Ogden butchers are not such bad people after all. In spite of the complaints which have been made against the meat market men all of the pest week they have been treating their patrons very kindly. A week ago the beef trust boosted prices In Omaha throe cents a pound on wholesale beef, and butchers began paying the added three rents. The patrons of Ogden shops have never suspected tor a moment, however, that the beef market had gone up, because of a eoarvity of rattle, tor the Ogden retailers did not rales the price. Prices on meets of all kinds remain the same today as they were a week ago In spite of the advance In tho wholesale market. What reason, If any, may be given for tho fact that the retailers did not increase the price of to not beef along with wholesaler known, but It to certain that Ogden butchers are selling beef today at prices no higher than tost week. 080000000000000000 go-ca- Pin-gr- as present. many at made Ogden City cemetery, A.
