The apathy which has heretofore characterised the local branch of the party haa paseed away ami. scenting success in the ulr, there are many aspirant for the positions on the ticket. Conditions have changed materially here during the past month. There ure many disgruntled Republicans in this city who have grudges to be satiated and affronts to be avenged. The party is almost split in twain. The attempt to patch up the breach by conceding the Kearns people one or two places on the ticket is not likely to have it desired effect, and the result will be that many of the senior senator's friends will either abstain from voting or cast their ballot for the defeat of the Smoot ticket on election day.
