What would become of the mighty ecclesiastical fabric if It could lie proven that the Bonk of Mormon Is untrue? he asked. It rests with you to prove to the world that It is what you say it is: a revelation from God; and the burden of the proof lies with us. Present the propoaltlon to the world and refer them to God for the confirmation of the things to which we bear witness. God's testimony is superior to human testimony. The Holy Ghost is the first, the last, the primary witness that It is a sacred American record and when Joseph Smith made this announcement he put himself in harmony with all scripture and with all the prophets that have ever written. Referring to what he called the secondary or human evidence, Mr. Roberts enumerated the names of the three Oliver Cowdery, David witnesses, Whltmer and Martin Harris, who, together with Joseph Smith, saw In a vision the angel Moroni. He related the circumstances under which they gave their testimony to the Book of Mormon and sketched the manner in which they stood by that testimony. Oliver Cowdery severed himself from the church In 1838, but so ter as a denial of his testimony to the truth of the Book of Mormon that was not charged against him. Cowdery returned to the church after eleven years of separation and died at Richmond. David Whltmer was excommunicated from the church at Farr West and went to Richmond nor did he ever deny his testimony.
