Sec. 2. That the penitentiario in the territories of Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming, shall continue under the care and control of the marshal of the United States for said territories, under and pursuant provisions of the act entitled An act in relation to cortaiQ territorial penitentiaries; approved January tenth eighteen hundred and seventy one; which Baid last mentioned act is hereby revived and reenactod so far as tho same applies to the territoris of Montane, Idaho, and Wyoming. He it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the existing contract or contracts between tho secretary of State on the part ot the United States, and Charles C. Little, Augustus Flagg, Henery T. Miles, and John Hartlett, of Boston, known as the firm of Little, Brown and Company, dated the twenty eight day of May eighteen hundred and sixty six, and all other contratcs between the United States or any officer thereof with said firm of Little Brown and Company respecting the printing or publication of laws of the United States, are hereby declared to be determined, pursuant to the powers therein reserved. Sec. 2. That the Secretary of State is hereby charged with the duty of causing to be prepared for. printing publication and distribution the revised statutes of the United States enacted at this present session of Congress, thnt he shall cause to be completed the head notes of the several titles and chapters and the marginal notes referring to the statutes from which each section was complied and repealed by said revison; and refetx ences to the dicisions of the courts of the United States explaining or expounding the same, and such decisions of State courts as maybe expedient, with a full and complete index to' the same. And when the same shall be completed, tho said secretary shall duly certify the same under the seal of the United States and when printed and promulgated as hereinafter provided, the printed volumes shall be legal evidence of tho laws and treaties therein contained, in all the courts of the United States, and of the several States and Territories. Sec. 3. That the revision of the statutes of a general and permanent nature with tho index thereto, shall be printed in one volume, and hall be entitled and labeled Revised statutes of the United States; and the revision of the statutes relating to the District of Columbia; to post roads, and the public treaties in force on tho first day of December, one thousand eight hundred and seventy three, with a suitable index to each, shalljbe published in a separate volume and entitled and labeled Revised statutes relating to District of Columbia and Post roads public treaties. Sec. 4. That the secretary of state shall cause the two volumes to be stereotyped and such number of each volume to bo printed and substantially bound at the Government printing office as he may deem needful; for public distribution us hereinafter provided and for sale by his office. See. 5. --That he shall, in like manner, cause to be edited, printed, published and distributed pamphlet copies of the statues of the present and each future session of Congress, to the officers and persons hereinafter provided and bound copies of the laws of each Congress to the number of two thousand copies to be distributed in the manner now provided by law, and uniform with the said edition of the revised statues. Sec. 6.
