It seems that the Government is likely to become involved irT another Indian war. Red Cloud and bis band are dictating terms to tbe authorities. It is hard to tall what will bo the course pursued by those having charge of Indian matters, but it dacs seem stranga that a great nation .like ours, which boasts of its power and dignity should temporize so long and leave its citizens at the mercy of a horde of savages. Were it nat so serious a matter it might provoke a smile to view the scone of a half naked savage coolly offering his ultimatum to the Government of the United State3 and calmly awaiting the decision of the authorities respecting his offered compromise. Let the administration appoint honest officials, if any such candidates can bo --found among its hangers-on- , adopt some line of policy, and then enforce all its regulations with rigor. Wo read every day that the authorities have ordered all Indians to remain on their reservations, but wo daily see them in our streets. Constant reports come to our ears relative to their thieving and insolence all around us. It wtuld be well for our officials to take pattern by the British government, quit vaporing, and deal with the red devils as they deserve. We sincerely hope soma action will be taken in the matter. The cry about the cost is mere bosh. When this Government va3 striving to suppress the rebellion the people did not stop to ask what it would cost. Now while the lives and property of our citizens are at stake, it is worse than idle to do so; it is cruelty and meanness. How can our Government xpect the respect of foreign nations when she fails to keep peace and security within her own borders. Can we not find another Harney to repeat Ash Hollow a few times? and we might again have peace and security. -- The Nevada Legislature met yester day, and we suppose the auction has opened. We believe it is generally understood that the Senatorship in that State is put up to the highest bidder. Well, there is ejne consolation, they cannot do worso than they have done before. Let us hope, however, that they may inaugurate a new era in politics there, and weigh tho integrity and capability of the men they elect. It is but let us perhaps hoping against-hope- , as long best be cbaritsble and believe the as possible.
