Through the 'courtesy of friend we are enabled to give a description of this new style of roasting furnace, now ia operation at Stewarts old mill at Georgetown, and soon to be tested on gold ores at the Peck mill, in Upper Empire. ' The furnace is simply a cquare enclo sure of brick, roofed over with boiler iron, and having underneath it a fire-b-o and ash-piTne roof of the is for flame and perforated admitting air, and forma a door upon which the ore to be treated is placed, Small round bars of wood or iron are set vertically upon this floor. These bars are placed in rows about five inches apart and extend to the top of the furnace yin charging the ore, first finely pulverised, is mixed with sufficient water to give it due con sistenev and is then thoroughly incor poratea with bay or straw. This mixture is shoveled into the kiln, till it is There is, within eighteen miles of He lena, one of the most wonderful cares in the world.
