Experience proved valuable last Thursday nipht in Layton as the Lancer wrestling team completely dominated the 1980 Region One wrestling scene as they came away seven individual champions and two second places. Locally however, Weber had the best showing with two crowned champions and two more that took second. Roy had four men vying for championship spots but each lost in the final round. The Lakers of Bonneville didnt have any one in the championship round and finished sixth in the 1980 event. The Lancers rolled up 183.5 points to totally dominate second-plac- e Sky View, which compiled 140.5. Layton walked away with seven of 12 first-plac- e finishes, in addition to two second place finishes, a third and fourth place ribbon. Weber was third with 122.5 points while the Roy Royals compiled 99 points for fourth place. Clearfield and Bonneville battled for the cellar spot, with Falcons, scoring 42 points getting the better of the deal. The Lakers finished with 35 points. The top six wrestlers in the 98, 119, 138 and 167 pound divisions qualified for next weeks State 4A competition, while the top five finishers in the other divisions will also advance to the state meet. Kurt Gallegos of Layton was voted the top wrestler of the 1980 meet. Brad Story, who was also named the week's outstanding wrestler by Sportstacular, defeated Kyle Anderson of Sky View 10-- 2 in the championship category. for the 132-pou- Fans from North Ogden and Pleasant View jumped with joy when Brad upset his higher seeded opponent from the north. It was the first time Brad had defeated Anderson ths season. The second championship brought Webers way was. with Eric Burtons 6 decision over Jay Winward of Roy in the slot. The skating passes may be used during any Thursday evening skate from p.m. for a cost of only $1 per ticket.
