The Falcons lost their season opener to Kearns at home, but after the Woods Cross win Tuesday, they made it four straight victories in a row in their brand new gym. The Wildcats fielded a much taller team and perhaps more talented and with both of these factors led the Clearfield squad through much of the game. Clearfield held the lead early in the first period but never regained it until Gorringe took the fourth quarter tip off and raced down the court and layed in a breathtaking shot admist a bunch of Wildcats. That gave the Falcons a 1 lead and though were later tied with the Wildcats, they never 42-4- trailed again. ' With the score notched at 49 a piece with 2:43 remaining the Wildcats decided to give the Falcons some of their own medicine by stalling outthe dock for the final shot with a. offense. That was fine until a Wildcat player threw the ball away with 56 seconds left to play. From there the Falcons, led by a cool and confident Coach Craig four-corn- Hansen, stalled down to er 37 seconds and called time out. When time resumed, Qearfield again went into a pattern and called timeout with ll seconds to set up the shot. However the Titan's strength inside slowly began to pay off and 6-- 2 6-- tug-o-w- ar Sorenson of Olympus High made the difference in the Titan's 9 win over Davis High. Coach Ron Huber called his team's victory the best game of the season, a victory that lifted their total record to 2 to that point. Their widest margin was the margin in the final score , With the win, Olympus was to play Clearfield Wednesday night while Davis and Woods Cross were to battle in the consolation 9-- and Sorensons controlling of the boards that won the game for Olympus. Coach Mike Gardner of Davis Was severely disappointed after the loss and' couldn't call the Titans the best team they've played. We deserved to lose the way we played," said Gardner. Jeff Emery seemed to hit everything he threw up and did most of the damage to the Titans in the first quarter. He ended the game with 23 points, high for the Darts. The Titans however probably 16-1- 4 . won the game in the second quarter as they completely controlled the boards. With Willie Wright, and Stephenson doing most of the scoring for Olympus, the Titans 9 took a halftime lead and never trailed again. 34-2- Huber later commented, Davis is probably the best Ain- - . damental team that weve played. But I can't put enough praise on Stephenson who went hard to the boards for us. He went to a family recital last night and that probably psyched him up. Davis is one of the better teams we've played this year, but with our team playing the best they've played all season we got the win.
