Show . to - UMKMUMiuttfB'BMt- - Sportstacular Pago 16 September 27. 1979 OimeirtssDDDg Will Bonneville run away with the Region One football title in 1979? Coach Brent Hancock of Clearfield stated before his teams drubbing by the Lakers, No one is going to go undefeated in this league and if anyone possibly will, its got to be the Lakers. Clearfield, which should be one of the better teams in league play this season, saw hardy any daylight as the Lakers bombed them in the Region One opener 26--3. Marvin Ellis and Company made believers out of a lot of matidto-wp- people in that contest. The big clash this week should be the contest against Bonneville and Layton which will be played in Layton and begins at 4 p.m. It will be Marvin Ellis putting on his show against Laytons talented back, Dave Burke. Both Ellis and Burke were unanimous choices last season as two of the finest backs in Region One and the entire state for that matter. Layton finally edged out the Lakers last season and eventually claimed stake to the state title. Bonneville entered the state playoffs in second place and left the state tourney when Granger fece pirep s defeated them by three points in the semi-final- s. Coach Tom Budge has proved he is one of the finest high school football coaches in the state while building a consistent winner and molding together a coaching staff that knows their assignments and carries them out faithfully. Budge would like nothing more than to defeat Layton and be one step closer to that coveted Region One champion position. Gary Hansen of Layton is no pushover and neither is his team. Layton hasnt sparkled like everything figured they would in but pre-seaso- n, they are "UTAH fosainnis awesome and could be a strong contender for the title if they can get past the Lakers on Friday. Last week, Layton shut out Roy 14-- 0 and now stand 2 over all and 0 in league. Bonneville meanwhile is 0 overall and 0 in league play. Sky View at Clearfield 2-- 4-- 1-- Another noted contest this week is when the Bobcats of Sky View invade Clearfield for a 4 p.m. game. Clearfield knows they are a much better team than what they portrayed last week at Bonneville, and would like nothing else than to redeem themselves this week. Sky View on the other hand and now defeated Weber 1 overall. Bobcat Btands Mowers feel they have . one of their better Sky View teams in years and are not counting their chances out fon' winning the league title. Roy at Weber The final Region One clash finds Roy at Weber, both teams going for their first Region One victory. Weber will be trying to locate their first win of the 1979 season. Roy overall is 2 and 0-- 1 in league. 7-- 0 3-- 2-- High School Footbdl OVERALL STANDINGS LEAGUE STANDINGS ticlmts avcSsbfo SALT LAKE CITY-Tic- kets are still available for the NBA Doubleheader featuring the Utah Jazz, the Los Angeles Lakers, the Denver Nuggets and Phoenix Suns to be held in Special Events Center at University of Utah, October Reserved seats for the the the file 8th. two and can games are (8. $5 and $4 be purchased at the Special Events Center Ticket Office, the Salt Palace Ticket Office or file Utah Jazz Offices in the Salt Palace.
