Show f t CLEARFIELD COURIER, BY Keith Duncan Lookout for the Falcons ! . Clearfield High, behind the hustle g and precise of six seniors, ended up dominating Davis High last Friday evening, winning on their home court, n The rivalry continued its bitter stretch last weekend, but this time the Clearfield team had too much going for themselves and won easily. Coach Craig Hansen, who is men play-makin- 67-4- 5. Dart-Falco- toring as a head coach for the first time in his basketball career, was extremely pleased with the triumph. Neither team played the kind of ball their capable of playing, he commented, "but we did what we had to do to win and thats all I can ask. It keeps amazing me how these kids play so unselfishly week in and week out. That was the key to our win tonight and the key to all our wins. Now 0 on the season, Clearfield will once again wade into Region One 8-- wars. This Friday they travel to Skyview and the following Tuesday they entertain the Bountiful Braves. Any time we play Skyview in their own gym, you have to figure they are fifteen points better, said Coach Hansen in reference to Fridays clash. Coach Mike Gardner was expecting to see a good Clearfield team, as was voiced several times prior to the game. And he saw a good one. Coach Gardner has headed the Davis program for several years now and his Darts, despite the loss last Friday, will be back. Davis figures to be one of the top contenders for the Region Four title in the bracket. Roger Vincent was almost unstoppable in the first half and his teammate, Russ Florence was just the same in the second half. Together these two Clearfield big men tallied 37 points and dominated the Clearfield rebounding stats. Vincent was especially tough on defense inside the key while Florence was out at half- court stealing passes and swatting others away. Mark Wayment saw a lot of offensive rebounds being gobbled up by Wayment. The Clearfield guardline, which may be the key to the Falcons title chances this season, was superb. Larry Read was old reliable all the way through. He had the tough assignment of guarding Davis talented Mike Mounteer. The other guard , Mark Reid, tossed in 10 points and was a big factor in opening up the middle so Vincent and Florence could go to work. Region One is loaded with numerous and talented big men this season. Mark Montgomery of Weber, Mark Sindle of Roy, Brad Hall of Weber, Anderson of Layton are but just a few. The key many coaches feel will be the effectiveness of the guardline and so far Clearfield has produced the top duo. If it lasts the Falcons just might keep their record unblemished. Coming off the bench and helping to spark the Falcons was Scott Nye, the blonde-haire- d scrambler. The second he entered the jame things began to happen and it was usually for the better. And we couldnt conclude without mentioning Bob Sants last second shot that gave the Clearfield team a margin.
