Apparently, the interview took place just a few days before the teacher left the mortal frame. A student tutor asked the what constituted the most severe obstacle in the path toward spiritual development. Without hesitation, the answer shot back, The want of a ruling passion. The simple directness of the answer clung to the underpinnings of my mind as we headed for the Weber State College campus for the twilight concert. As a quarter moon arched above us in gleeming brightness and the western sky paled into mauve before glowing rosie orange along the orchid mountains, the conductor lead the orchestra into the light hearted music from Candid. One could hardly look upon the thousands of casual listeners draped about the edges of the Lindquist Pool, and watch the white geese glide effortlessly across; the water cutting noiseless ripples in the pool of reflected evening, without feeling a warm satisfaction that here, for just a short time at least, we shared the real American Dream . . . PEACE. ABUNDANCE BEAUTY, AND LOVE.. But, the phrase, The want ruling passion, rippled across my mind like ripples in the pool as I gazed towards the sunset and the languid Great Salt Lake in the purple distance. 1 have a philosophy that if thereis a simple truth, it must oe applicable to every aspect of life, simple or complex, and so I make a game of testing it against everyday situations as well as what great philosophical teachers have said. A ruling passion to help brain injured children back to useful lives drove Dr. Glenn Doman to the far corners of the earth to find clues to the repatterning of the brain.
