Waterfowl on upgrade A recent report from the Canadian field office of Ducks Unlimited in- dicates waterfowl production this year in British Columbia and Alberta will be improved over 1978. This outlook, good news for Utah and other Pacific Flyway states, has been attributed to the presence of favorable water conditions across western Canadas principal waterfowl Most waterfowl breeding habitat passing through Utah each fall are Alaskan-reare- d birds, but a sizeable number come from these two Canadian provinces. Although its still too early to come evaluation of up with a waterfowl production for 1979, said Ducks Unlimited Executive Dale E. Whitesell, I think we can safely say that stable water conditions throughout most of British Columbia and excellent water levels in Alberta have put to rest any production apprehensions we might have had earlier due to a hatch. The survival of young birds through the rest of the summer depends, of course, on the quality of brood water in days ahead. But right now our staff agrees that it would take a severe dry spell to tumble the hopes we have for a solid population of waterfowl from these two provinces this fall. father Raymond A. Jones.
