People would like to have ... this . " changed. The ordinance, which prohibits the parking of vehicles on the city streets between the hours of 2 a.m. and 7 a.m. is punishable by a $5 fine. Mayor Townley said that the ordinance is a bitter pill for the people to swallow because they feel that it is an unjust law. He also claimed that the City Attorney and the City Judge are in favor revising the ordinance. According to Police Chief Daren Green, who is responsible for the writing of the justification for this ordinance several years ago, the basic reason for this ordinance is not snow removal as many claim, it is safety from car theft, children being killed from running into the street from between parked cars and to keep junk cars off the street. The Chief also said, I believe in this ordinance and I have defended it many times. He said the citizens became most irate over this ordinance when the fine increased from $2 to $5. According to the Chief, a car must be seen parked on the street for over an hour before it is ticketed. He also said there are special permits to be obtained for visitors making them exempt from the ordinance. The councilmen were unanimous in their decision to leave the ordinance of out-of-to- as is. Clearfield Highs AFJROTC hosted Cyprus Highs AFJROTC unit in a basketball game April 20 and came out victorious with the score of High scorers for Clearfield were Linn Shaw, 14 points; Neil Breeden, 12 points, and Mark Forbush with 10. Also in last nights council meeting, two public hearings were held for the purpose of rezoning the South Gate Estates and the Angus Stevens The first property from l to R-zoning, South Gate Estates on 1700 South, provoked a heated discussion on the lap of R-- l zoning in the city. After a lengthy period of time, the council rezoned the property to which is an upgrade of the R-Don Bradshaw, a resident of the area being considered and the contractor, told the council he objects to the lack of R-- l zoning in Clearfield calling it irresponsible zoning. He said, This is Clearfields last shot for R-- l zoning. He also said he would like to see the motion tabled if an agreement on R-- l could not be met until all restrictive covenants could be worked out. A-- R-2- According to Albert Cole, city planner, the entire city is zoned R-which requires a minimum of 960 square feet per dwelling. R-- l requires a minimum of 1100 square feet. The boys selected from Clearfield High School were, William M. Schumer, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Schumer; Terry E. Malmgren, son of Mr. and Mrs. . Edwin Malmgren; Alfred D. Garcia, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Garcia; and Phillip M. Gardner, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Gardner. Boys State will be held at Utah State University June Purpose of Boys State is to educate the youth in the duties, privileges, rights and of American responsibilities citizenship. In the Play this year, the cast will attempt to educate the audience as to the early history of Clearfield. Workshop aids senior citizens lives A workshop for Professionals, Senior Citizens and Future Senior Gtizens will be held at the Utah State University in Logan on May 4. This workshop will explore resources and activities available to senior citizens. The ultimate purpose is to present new information and skills for seniors to take back to their homes and use in their lives. The registration fee is $25 before May 4th is $20.). Registration forms are available at the Council on Aging Office in McDougal receives honors Donald K. McDougal w'as selected to be one of the 1978 Outstanding Young Men of America by the Board of Advisors of the U.S. Jaycees. Mr. McDougal, who has resided in Clearfield for the past nine years, has served as chairman of the Clearfield Planning Commission and is term on presently serving a four-yea- r the Clearfield City Council. He formerly worked as an electronics technician at 1IAFB and is now owner and broker of a local real estate firm and is president and general contractor of a construction company. He is a member of the Clearfield Chamber of Commerce, the Gearfield Kiwanis and past secretary of the North Davis Exchange Club. He is a Senatorial District Chairman. , Mr. McDougal attended Ricks College and Weber State College and is a veteran of the Viet Nam War. He served a mission for the LDS Church to Mexico and is presently serving in the bishopric of the Gearfield Tenth Ward. He and his wife Kay Lynne are Cis parents of three sons and daughters. |
