Show s f f April 19, 1978, Page CLEARFIELD COURIER, WOODS 1 S I Clearfield owns third place in Region One baseball, just one game behind Bountiful and Bonneville, who have identical 1 records. In action last week, Clearfield had big wins over Layton, Viewmont and Weber. CLEARFIELD 7 LAYTON 6 Layton came up with four big runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the ball game and send it into extra innings. Mike Arrant relieved Glen Abeyta in the seventh, and shut the Lancers out in the eighth and ninth innings to get the victory. CLEARFIELD 8 VIEWMONT 3 The Falcons beat the Vikings 3 on six hits, by capitalizing on a rash of Viewmont errors. Scott Hartung led the hitting with two singles, and Adams, Gardener, Bird and Arrant each got hits in the game. A heavy down pour hit the field, just as Mike Arrant was striking out his ninth Viking to end the game. CLEARFIELD 7 WEBER 6 Glen Abeyta was called upon to pitch to one batter in the last inning, with two men out, and the bases loaded, and Clearfield leading 7 to 6. He got the man out and the Falcons beat the Warriors to take sole possession of third place. Matt Miller tripled and singled in the game, Mike Bird tripled and Scott Hartung got two singles to help the Clearfield cause. On Tuesday of this week, Clearfield was scheduled to meet the league leading Lakers of Bonneville. The once beaten Lakers are the only team to have beaten the Bountiful Braves, at this writing. A win over Bonneville, and a Roy victory over Bountiful could put Region One into a mad scramble for the pennant.
