Show I I i Cloarfield looses CLEARFIELD COURIER, March first round at state Clearfield trailed Brighton by only two points with six seconds left in the ball game, and had possession of the ball, but lost the game during the first round of the state basketball 72-6- 6 finals. In those final hectic seconds, Russell Florence had gone up for a shot but was whistled for an offensive foul and a second one for not sitting down immediately. Brightons Brad Heaps stepped to the line and connected on three of the four shots allowed, and the Bengals got the ball out of bounds. The Falcons fouled again in a futile act of survival, with two seconds left on the clock, and Brighton added one more point to the final outcome. For Big Brother Duke, the game ended on a sour note. Great gray owls are primarily found in the dense pine and fir forests of Alaska and Canada. This bird of prey generally travels no further south than northern Idaho or Wyoming. Only one other sighting of this species has been documented in Utah in recent times. However, about five years ago, one was found in Idaho near Pocatello. Migration of this species is sporadic; the cyclic levels ot its prey species, including rats, shrews, mice, squirrels, rabbits and birds, greatly influence its migratory pattern. In external dimensions the great gray owl exceeds the other 18 North American owl species. However, this owl is rated as the third largest, being smaller than the great horned and the snowy owls. The length and weight of the great gray owl average 289 inches and 47 ounces. Concentric circles of white and gray around the lemon yellow eyes accentuate the largeness and roundness of the owls head. In April the adult female lays two to five rough, dull white oval eggs in a nest 40 to 100 feet off the ground in a conifer or hardwood tree. About thirty days later, fluffy whitish young hatch out of the eggs. About five sightings of the snowy owl have been reported this year in Utah. This owl, also an infrequent visitor to Utah, probably travelled this far to find an adequate food source. BTULOifO Games will begin in Davis county on March 18, in Ogden on April 1. Which is the largest high school in Utah, and which is the smallest? From the Utah High School Activities Association (UHSAA) I learned that Cottonwood High Schools 1976-7- 7 enrollment was 2,750 students in the top three grades, and EskDale High School, and Mount Vernon Academy were smallest with ten students each. So where is Mount Vernon Academy, and where is EskDale? From a friend I learned that EskDale is a small community, west of Delta, near the equally small town of Partoun. (Wherever that is) EskDale is peopled by a religious splinter group that was once affiliated with the L.D.S. Church. The townspeople elected to organize their own high school, rather than bus their children the many miles to an established school. EskDale is associated with Region Eight, along with the high schools of Panguitch, Valley, Bryce Valley, Escalante, Gunnison, Wayne, Piute, Parowan, Milford, North Sevier, Wasatch Academy, Beaver and Enterprise. Mount Vernon Academy is located in Murray. From Principal Jack Eagle HyDD needed. Both boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 17 are invi ted to join.
