The Coast Guard is the nation's oldest continuously active seagoing service, and we who serve are very proud of our heritage and traditions. I would like to point out that this year is also the 40th of another birthday organization dedicated to the same ideals as the Coast Guard; the Coast Guard Auxiliary. The Coast Guard Auxiliary volunteer organization comprised of men and women who give their time, personal property and sometimes their lives, to the service of their fellow man; and for this they no or receive pay renumeration with the ex- ception that reimbursed they are for fuel costs. These Auxiliarists, 'using their own boats, radios, planes and automobiles, many hours doing on the nations patrols safety waterways. The Summer Search for Measles is a cooperative effort of ten state health agencies to seek out and interrupt chains of measles transmission. The summer search is part of a national effort to eliminate measles from the United States by 1962.
