Show V June 13, 1979, Poge CLEARFIELD COURIER. 10 Art stow told ddh Art enthusiasts in the Clearfield, Sunset area were specially treated last week with the arrival of Oliver Parson, a nationally known and highly recognized oil painter. The week long visit by the talented artist was another event in a long line that is leading up to the featured Clearfield City July 4th Art and Picture Show, which is held annually. -- ViA Mr. Parson, who served as the curator of the Springville Art Gallery in Utah before going to Ricks College in 1954 to take charge of the art department, is to stage several workshops in several cities over the next few months. Mr. Parson will stage another art workshop for Clearfield in the first week of October. Twelve local art students attended the week-lon- g workshop by Mr. Parson, and that included, Ethel Paul of Clearfield. Others attending the workshop were Jackie Paul of North Ogden; Betty Hyer of Kaysville; Darlene Hamblin of Ogden; Maxine Nichols of Layton; Carol Christensen of Roy; Norda Gardner of Clearfield; Sandra Ashby of Roy; Mac Stevenson of North Ogden; Nancy Lund of Salt Lake and Lanny Bernard of Salt Lake. After more than 25 years of teaching art in junior and 807 MODEL for Fathers Day $41 50 received his first degree in 1941 a BS degree from the University of Utah with a major in art. He received his master of fine arts degree from the Utah University in 1948 and then began at- tending graduate schools throughout the country, including the National Academy of Fine Arts and the Art Students League in New York City, and the Banff School of Fine Arts in Canada. Parson taught in junior and senior high schools in Utah before coming to Ricks. He then served for 19 years as head of the Ricks Art Department. He also has served as president of the Utah Art Association and the Art Idaho Association. Ik- Parson received the 1978 Fourth Biennial Governors Award in the Arts. Parson also is working on a fall scene of the Tetons, an oil painting he is now completing. He would be called a western artist from a lifetime of association with Idaho and the West.
