For Citizenship Honor Roll a student must have between 4 and 7 meaning that they have set a high standard of citizenship before the other students within the classroom. Hs; For Regular Scholastic Honor Roll student must have a grade point average between 3.45 and 3.745. For High Scholastic Honor Roll a student must have a grade point average between 3.75 and 4.0. The school competition is coming up and must be held before March 2. After the Sunset Junior High had a Spelling Bee Warm-u- p the week before Christmas vacation. Sixteen contestants participated in the event and it resulted in four finalists: David Smith, from Websters Third International Dictionary. If a student has previously won a National Spelling Bee he or she will not be eligible for further competition. District Administration school competition, area competition will be held on March 7 in the library at North Davis Junior High in preparation for the District competition to be held March 14 in the auditorium of the Robert Morrill and Maren Watts. The warm-u- p spelling bee was in preparation for the Davis County School District Spelling Bee which is sponsored in part by the Utah Education Association and the State Board of Education. In January the four finalists competed again. Finalists from that competition were David Smith and Linda Stevens. Finally on Jan. 24 the last two finalists met and the 1st place championship trophy was won by David Smith, 8th Building in Farmington. ' recognized HILL AIR FORCE BASE Murray O. He quit school at the age of 16, after repeated trouble with both school and local law enforcement officials. The future looked pretty bleak. He then enrolled in a special commuter program from Brigham with the Gearfield Job Corps. He was part of a group of about 26 students from Northern Utah that were bussed each day to the Gearfield Job Corps for training and then bussed back home again each night. When we first started they gave us a tour of the entire center and told us about all the programs. We were given our choice of all of them," added Mark. He sprat eight hours a day for about eight months at the crater learning the baking trade in the morning and spending the afternoons in classrooms. Mark later earned his GED certificate with the Marine Corps. I really liked what I had learned at the Center, continued Mark, so when I got out of the Marines I worked at Eddys Bakery, Food King, and Safeways. A year and a half ago, Mark opened his own business and today he and his wife, Peggy, have five other employes working for them. .The bakery, completely separate from the grocery store, has become a thriving business for the a new specialty doughnut, cherry nut, Mark Peter turns individual doughnuts as they cook. The bakery is located inside the Smith Food King store. TRYING OUT Is ,, v ' Peter family. They rent space from the grocery store but maintain their own equipment, supplies, and books. We are required to have a separate business license and pay all of our own taxes, he explained. A normal work day for Mark begins at 4 a m. six days a week. The bakery turns out fresh bread everyday, along with doughnuts, sweet rolls, cakes and other bakery goodies. Using his own without any recipe, preservatives, Mark bakes about 4600 loaves of bread a week. He likes to try new recipes, and this week he was featuring a cherry-nu- t doughnut in commemoration of Washington's birthday.
