Every community has an interesting past, if youll take the trouble to dig it out. Never take the family to Washington, D.C. without touring one of the most interesting buildings anywhere the Capitol. Or go to a nearby canyon where ancient Americans carved fascinating figures in the rock and ask the kids: Were they doing this to send us messages centuries after they died or were they just expressing themselves ar- tistically?" Id like to close the subject after this week. A reader writes: I couldn't agree with more. you Stepping around dog droppings in the natural wild is worse than wading through it in the downtown area of my city. We expect the city to be dirty, but the wild should be clean. And the noise of dogs barking or whining surely interferes with the pleasures of hearing wind in the pines, crickets and birds. That is the reason we go camping. - C. Schwarzkopf -- Dont forget reading. Summers a great time for this. Set aside an evening for the family to visit the library discover its various departments and go back as many times as you can. As most of you may remember, some time back I suggested that pet owners whenever possible, leave Bowser at home because too many dogs create a nuisance at campgrounds with both mess and noise. I also said it wasnt fair to leave them all day in an RV while master was out the enjoying sights. The roof fell in from dog 11 59 And another from reader: We have camped at and I all over grounds have never missed seeing one where a pesty dog strolled by and watered the wheels or littered around your camper. This is not even mentioning those dogs who bark every time you move around at night. People who are so attached to their pets should stay at home with them. Many people object but dont so openly. Many people are better to their dogs than they are to their kids. Cromer These letters are typical of the load that recently came in. They back up my feelings exactly. Unless a dog owner carries a pooper scooper around (and most dont) no matter where the dog is walked, someone is bound to step in it. Most will leave their pets in the RV while they are out and the barking and howling is not to be believed. But aside from this, most RVs behot come unbearably when the day during the is off. This isnt exactly healthful for the pet left behind. Of course this isnt to say that no pet should be brought along. Many of those who wrote had smaller animals and were able to maintain a greater degree of control. What it boils down to is consideration for your neighbors and common sense. 1978 McNaught Synd. say more reading.
