Show I THE CITIZEN With the First Nighters VAN HOVEN 18 THRILLER Ambassador of Scottish Mirth, is a scream. People laugh just to look at him and when he starts his lingo theres no holding the audience, it just bursts with enthusiasm. He is funny AT PANTAGES THIS WEEK. There la fun for all at the Pantages this week. Jackie Coogan takes the lead in the feature picture, and . Frank Van Hoven, known the world over as the Dizzy Mad Magician, and the man who made ice famous, is the lead in the vaudeville. Coogan in Johnny Get Your Hair Cut, becomes the hero in a big feature race at Tanforan. He not only upsets the betting but also prevents the best horse in the race from being beaten as scheduled by prearrangement by race track manipulators. It is a picture full of excitement and thrills, showing race track life among owners, trainers and jockeys. It is a picture which our legislators ought to see; it might convert them to horse racing. Robin and Hood open the vaudeville with a clever ladder stunt, one that not only requires a great deal of nerve, but great dexterity as well. They walk about the stage on upright ladders and even skip the rope. The double balancing stunt is a thriller. Joseph Griffen, the tenor, pleases with old and new songs and ballads. He has a clear ringing voice and is called back sevIrish-Americ- . Jock McKay, who styles it wonder why a Scotchman away so much mirth. He stories about himself, his or anybody, it does not clear through and through and makes one would give tells funny neighbors, eral times for repeats. himself McKi. Miller & Marks Revue, presented as personified pep, is featured by singing and dancing, together with a e clever orchestra that plays well. Two boys are fast steppers and their imitation skating stunt is good. A graceful girl shows some new steps in the Charleston and also sings. Frank Van Hoven turns the stage upside down, inside out, and because it is not totally wrecked is not his fault He performs some clever tricks, starts others and depends upon several small boys whom he selects from the audience to do his hardest work. Before he leaves town he will have made many kid actors. Most of them will be his friends but the lads he makes hold a large cake of ice will give him the frosty stare. He presents a liimted number of his own photographs in ice cakes which keeps him fresh with ready wit for the stage. While performing he talks faster than an irritated flapper and he sure puts lots of fun into the five-piec- Joseph Griffin, famous Irish Tenor, now playing Pantages. an make any difference to him. He does a little singing and also plays the famous Scotch bagpipe.
