We claim that fishing was never so poor in this state than it was this year. Few fish were caught on the Provo, Weber and Logan rivers, the three big streams of the state. The reason for it is that the reported millions planted were dumped into the main streams and that was the end of most of them. One tenth of one per cent may have escaped. Our fish and game department has had outdoor pictures made and the press has planted millions of trout, together with glowing accounts of the excellent shooting and hunting. But the average man who fishes and hunts knows the actual truth from experience purchased at a high price. No fish were planted in Parleys canyon this year, it was said because the reservoir had to be repaired. That certainly is some good excuse when it is taken into consideration that there are only some thirty or forty miles of running water, counting Farleys, Mountain Dell and Lambs Canyon. But we could let that pass if insult was not added to injury. When the reservoir commenced to run low' and it was seen that there were a large number of trout, some of them going five and six pounds, in the reservoir, Dave Madsen could not rest until he got in there with a seine, it is said to catch a lot of chubs, as well as to remove the trout to other waters. He also closed the stream between the two dams so that none of the people could catch any of the nice trout. If they want trout they should go to the Strawberry reservoir and hire Daves brothers for guides and they can get all the fish they want. i it not about time that some one called a halt upon the present methods used by the fish and game department? Only the men, women and boys who cannot afford to go farther, fish in Farleys. Many of them take tbe street cars to the penitentiary and then walk up the canyon. Yet when there is an opportunity for these people to get some fish they are denied their God given rights.
