Why, we are providing a higher education which will keep hoy or girl from working hard to make a living! What is the real result? If one was to make a canvas of the s of Park City and Eureka, they would find many high school ents working there. No one needs to go to high school to be able orkin a mine; no one needs to go to high school to milk a cow. The trouble with us today is that the people have allowed a few hers and professors to get away with the idea that all the tax ley should be spent in schools, and no one should question the s. A careful audit and investigation of our schools would un- sr a multitude of things carried on at great cost, which are abso- ly for an education. In fact the expenditure of our iol money should come under the supervision of the county com- ioners in order to secure a more equitable distribution and check ie outlay. There is entirely too much money spent these days for at schools, and many of those who graduate from our high Is expect to continue to play the balance of their lives. HOW DRY WE ARE. i Hi eyes (if the entire rews who has country are focused upon Assistant undertaken to rebuild the entire prohibition andwho claims that shortly after the first of September the Wl'H become dry. It takes big men to have dreams like en-Unl- ry T I Z E N 5 that, but even Julius Caesar fell at a time when it was thought he was invincible. Under present plans, many of the chiefs and workers will lose their jobs, for the good of the service. Efforts are being made to enlist chiefs from among the big businessmen, some without pay, to help in the cleanup. The average citizen knows just how much work an American will do without pay, and judging from the start that is being made the new venture will about fall as flat as most of the North Pole expeditions in the past. There is one sure method in securing real enforcement of this unpopular dry law and that is for the government to employ half of the citizens to watch the other half. It is a matter of history that reformers have never made good in the past. Mr. Andrews may be a possible exception, but we really believe he will become the laughing stock of the country. DIRTY MILK. Health Commissioner Dr. T. B. Beatty says that this citys milk supply carries too much dirt and the bacterial count is far too high for the general health of the community. This announcement comes as a surprise to the people who are asked to pay a very high price for their milk, and at present exorbitant prices the public should receive the best of milk. In fact with the unlimited green fields and over production of hay this year, a banner year for farmers, milk should be cheaper than ever. However, it matters little how cheaply milk can be produced, under the present system of control, the consumer is made to pay the top price at all times. SLOW RECORD WORK Finally the short stretch of road over the summit of Parleys canyon has been finished. The state has been at work for nearly three years on this road, which is a crushed rock affair covering 3.4 miles. The contractors are blamed for the long drawn out project, but the sight-see- r that has seen the outfit at work tried to figure why such an attempt at killing time was made. There appeared to be a great deal of loafing on the job. This is the third summer, which has nearly come to an end, to build a trifle over three miles of dirt road. That is about how all work has progressed upon the Utah Lincoln highway, and there must be some reason for it. The tax payers paid a big bill here. ' NOTED MUSICIAN DIES Professor John J. McClellan, world famous pipe organist, has passed to the great beyond, but his memory lingers with us, and Utah historians will say of him that he was one of the most accomplished musicians of the world. His loss to Utah is great, in fact at this time there is no one who can step into his shoes and produce the music from the big Tabernacle organ that McClellan could produce. It has often been said that what Paderewski is to the piano, McClellan was to the pipe organ, and he was famous the world over. TYPE OF ROAD. There is a growing tendency to pay more attention to scientific highway construction. The initial surveying work to secure the best location for a road must be backed up by sound engineering principles applied to the construction of the hard surface itself. With states, cities and counties spending hundreds of millions of dollars on permanent paving, the taxpayers are learning that they cannot afford cheap and imperfect construction. They find that it is always at their expense that so called cheap construction by incompetent and inexperienced contractors is carried on.
