Phone Wasatch 5409 Uth UndCr th 311-12-- 13 Salt Lake City, Utah DO YOU VOTE LA FOLLETTE BARRED Does it matter who is elected? Does it matter whether you vote or stay at home on the day of election? History proves that it does matter a great deal. At the last presidential election, only about half of the American citizens went to the polls and cast their ballots. For this lack of interest in politics, the people are now paying high taxes. Place the power in the hands of a few, and that few will use that power at the expense of the masses, dont forget that. Every citizen who has a vote should go to the polls and vote for the men who stand for justice and economy in government. The prevailing idea is that none but grafters enter politics and a great many people are refusing to waste any time at the polls. If these same people went to the primaries and demanded their rights the grafters would not be able to get in. The less serious the people take politics the more serious will become the economic problems of the day. If the people fail to elect competent and efficient business men, they will pay for their mistakes. The process of experiment cannot be carried on for nothing; it costs money. The wild ideas of some fanatics have cost the people huge sums of money, but the people A pick must not expect to have an inexperienced man make good. and shovel man cannot finance or run a big business, and our political offices constitute the biggest businesses we have in the country. Every twelfth person is on a political payroll. This in itself proves that there is something wrong with our system. Is it not time, therefore, for you to enter politics and investigate the political conditions in your town, in your city, in your county, in your state and in your country? Do not be carried away by some flowery aftid oratorical political speech, but sift down the facts. The paid politician wants your vote and he goes to the very limit to get it. Aye, even to the vilest defamation of his opponents character. Preceding every election we find trumped up charges of graft which is entirely forgotten after election. If there are those who know of any graft, then it is their duty tu acquaint the public with the same and kick the officials out. Let us base all our elections upon the merits and capabilities of the men running for office and be guided by common sense and not by the scurrilous allegations set forth by a few calamity howling politicians. A business man must have the best of service in his establishment to make money and to prosper. When he finds a drone, he gets rid of him. Our political offices should be handled in the same Propaganda is one of the curses and aftermaths of the recent world war. It has now become an effective cudgel by those who wish to force their wares and tares upon the people, and it is continually at work, day and night. As a stimulant to trade, Propaganda has no superior. The unsuspecting public is fed up on it and then exploited for the benefit of a few, and the present high cost of living can be laid at its door. Just recently we read all about milk and why people should use it. If you want to be healthy and strong, you must use milk. Then there was a rush to the milkman and then bang the price was boosted. The reason given for the increase in the price of milk was given that some certain farmer living bn a certain hilltop was unable to get water to his land and he had a short hay crop. The city drone and nonproducer saw his opportunity to make a big haul while the farmer was bemoaning a dry season and the weather man was doing the rest, and of course the price of milk had to go up. Yet while we boosted milk here, in Seattle the price of milk was cut two cents per way. quart. To get. this efficiency requires the assistance of all the people. If half of the people are totally unconcerned as to how their governed is run, they are the ones who are going to pay, and they also rag down in the mire with them all those who endeavor to secure the best of government. Therefore, do not think that it does not make any difference as to who is elected. Go to the polls and vote for the men whom you know are for the people and their interests. . Senator La Follette, presidential candidate on the Progressive-Independen- t ticket, is all worked up over the court decision in California barring electors pledged to him in California. It appears that the La Toilettes secured 50,000 signatures to petitions, but they must have overlooked some point in the law and at the last moment it was found that the designated electors could not appear on the ballot. La Follette is not to be outdone so easily and immediately switched to the Socialist ticket which ticket he will support by a personal campaign in California the early part of next month. The present court decision will probably produce more votes for La Follette in California, in that many voters will rally to his ticket because of the fight carried to them. Hiram Johnson deplores the action of the court and says that the decision is unjustified by the law, contrary to public policy and of the most harmful consequences. He further states that it is just such decisions as this that undermine public confidence in the courts, and according to the story carried by the Salt Lake Tribune, the court has made a serious mistake. . PROPAGANDA Then some scientists got to work on coffee and its relation and usefulness to the human system. When low and behold these scientists made their report, we find that we are all mistaken, because if you dont drink coffee you will surely die. After the propaganda had made its rounds and the people had been made acquainted with the beneficial results, obtained by drinking coffee, we find the coffee trust boosting the price and taking the rakeoff. Some mighty poor coffee is bringing over 50 cents in the market today. A little coffee |
