Show 2iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii(Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiuiiiiiiiiiiiii5 UTAHS INDUSTRIES i INTERMOUNTAIN LIVE STOCK SHOW BIG AFFAIR The seventh annual intermountain' live stock show will be held at the North Salt Lake stock yards April 1 to 5, inclusive. The show is being held under the auspices of the livestock committee of the Chamber of Commerce and Commercial club, with It. N. Mead the manager of the show. The prize wining stock of the intermountain country will be assembled at this show and it will prove a great benefit to stock raisers of Utah. Not only will herd masters be able to purchase stock for their herds, but they will also learn a great deal about stock. To raise good stock for the market is a business which needs a great deal of attention. Herds must be culled, proper feeding and when to sell and when to buy is a big and vital question. More is learned at stock shows in one week than could be learned in years on the range. This show, coming in April, just at the closing term of the schools, provides practical demonstration conveniences for students, stockmen, particularly cattlemen will be provided a rare opportunity to select breeding stock and business men will here mingle with the producer in an environment that insures a larger acquaintance, secures a substantial friendship and enlarges the business opportunities. The great exhibit of select cattle, sheep and swine, plumped with fat, groomed, marcelled, manicured and bedecked with gold, silver and silk, and always at attention, provides the spectacular which will entertain all, especially the xaaies. Above all the outstanding feature will be the educational benefits; achievement is the advance agent of progress. Come and touch hands with both at the April show. blue-blood- ed MUSCLE SHOALS MUST BE RESERVED FOR PEOPLE The Manufacturers Record, published at Baltimore, in commenting on Muscle Shoals in its issue of February 2, says: I J The Tennessee river and Muscle Shoals are one of the nations great assets. The development of hydro-electri- c possibilities at Muscle Shoals would result in opening a long stietch of the Tennessee river for navigation, and thus a two-fol- d service would be rendered the country. In both respects here is an asset of measureless value which should be utilized not for individual profit alone but for the broadest service to the great stretch of country in which the river and Muscle Shoals are located. The advocacy by the Manufacturers Record of the offer made by the three Southern power companies, and in connection therewith an offer for the production of nitrates and the manufacture of fertilizers, has attracted widespread attention throughout the country, and voluntary letters have come to us from many sources in enthusiastic praise of this position, urging that the government should accept this offer in preference to the one made by Henry Ford. Mr. Fords plan has been in our opinion unwise from the beginning. He has demanded a hundred year lease on Muscle Shoals, and this should not be given to any individual or combination of individuals on earth; for it stretches into three generations the ownership or control of a power of such measureless value. The terms of his offer have always been Indefinite, and the congressional committee has tried in vain to get him to appear in person and explain in detail his offer, and meet the questions that would be raised. He is asking congress to transfer Muscle Shoals to him for twice the length of time which water powers are granted by the laws of the land. On the other hand, the associated power companies of the south', and some of the leading chemists of the nation, have united In propositions which lift the whole undertaking far beyond anything that has ever been promised or suggested by Mr. Ford, or by any one else. The acceptance of this offer would guarantee the production of nitrates and of fertilizers by men whose ability and whose achieve- - ments rank as of national concern, and by the acceptation of this offer this power would be developed to the utmost extent feasible, and by a superpower system be made available for the great stretch of territory from the Carolinas to Mississippi, and from Mobile on the gulf through Tennessee and the adjoining region. It is an offer fraught with tremendous possibilities for southern development. Its acceptance would result in concentrating all of the influences and all of the can back of these power comoamei their associates into hastening idly as possible the industrial and cultural development of the som order to create a market for thli power ( larged ment.
