Mine directors have been expecting to cut the large vein of ore which is known to be located in the ground they are now working in. Fissures of the Copper King and Prince of Wales are the object of the company officials, and the present work is now being done on the main tunnel which is over 1,800 feet below the surface, and it is here that the first indications of ore are cropping out. An assay of samples taken show 2.98 ounces gold, 84.7 ounces silver and 2.05 per cent copper, with much bismuth. The main tunnel is now over 5,00 feet in the hill, showing a formation of soluble Cambrian limestone, which is said to lie higher than the Emma limestone, which has been so productive in Alta. Engineers believe that the mine will be a big producer and its strategic position is said to be the key of the mining industry in the entire upper end of the canyon, and the use of its tunnel by other mines in the neighborhood would not only bring a big royalty, but would save thousands of dollars in cost production for other properties. " 9 BINGHAM MINES COMPANY MAKES GOOD YEARS SHOWING The report of the Bingham Mines company shows that 1,296 carloads of ore was shipped during 1923, which brought in et returns from the smelter of $1,076,654.70. The companys properties include the Victoria, Dalton and Lark, Eagle and Blue Bell, and the American Star, and the net gains of the mines was $337,485.14, compared with $291,954.01 for last year. General Manager Imer Pett says the outstanding feature of the years operations in the Dalton and Lark mines at Bingham was the continuity and productiveness of the various ore bodies. This condition, coupled with the fact that there are large areas remaining unexplored on the several veins, promises much for the future. Also that ore bodies in the Victoria at Tintic have shown remarkable continuity in their upward extensions, both in size and value. Mr. Pett is one of the most progressive mine managers of the western country, and the properties under his supervision have been productive and paying propositions for the COPPER JOINS LEAD BETTER PRICES IN ON MARKET Copper took an unexpected jump and sold as high as 14 cents during the week. The reports emanating from the big copper companies that there was a possible curtailment of work in the production of the metal, and that some plants might be closed entirely for the iimimnmi time being, has put a real kick into the red metal. Of course the market will be better from now on and that would affect the price. The lead market keeps up well and under the present price the lead mines of the United States are reaping a harvest. Silver mines which have good lead ores are also on a paying basis. However, silver is low in price and it hardly pays to work a silver mine under the present unsatisfactory market conditions. REPORT OF $400 for each dependent, provided his income was under $5,000. A married two children would therefore be entitled to an exemption of $3,300, but if the total Income is $2,000 or over a return must be filed. This office will appreciate your cooperation. We want to avoid all pen- alties, as far as possible, for failure to file returns. JAMES H. ANDERSON, Collector.
