Announcement was made today by the management of the American theatre, that it had booked "Pilgrims of the Night, the latest J. L. production through Associated Producers, Inc., to be the attraction at the house for four days, beginning Sunday. This production has been heralded by critics in the east who had the advantage of reviewing it before it was released as being one of the most thrilling and logical melodramas that has ever been produced on the screen. It is an adaptation of the novel, Passers By, from the pen of E. Phillips Oppenheim, the noted English author, who has written so many widely sold stories of international intrigue and adventure. The story concerns itself with the adventures growing out of the theft of 4,000,000 francs from and its subsethe French quent disappearance from the place where the leader of the criminal band had hidden it The beautiful daughter of the master thief, complicates matters considerably by falling in love with the young Englishman who is actually responsible for the breaking up of the criminal band, and also by becoming imbued with a strange fascination for the man whom her foster father suspects of having betrayed him. The story made possible an elaborate scenic production and according to reports, Mr. Frotheringham took full advantage of every opportunity the novel offered for. investing his production with beautiful settings. Widely known locations in Paris and London are used as settings for the action. Edward Sloman, who directed "The Ten Dollar Raise," the initial production by Mr. Frothingham for Associated Producers, also directed "Pilgrims of the Night. The story opens in Paris just prior to the looting of the French After the loot has been stolen from the original thief, he is captured by police, and he places his foster daughter in charge of a hunchback henchman after getting a promise from her that she will spend her life in tracing the Englishman whom he suspects of having betrayed him. Her search for the Englishman ends just at the time her foster father has escaped from prison. The climax comes in London when the thief actually discovers who it was that betrayed him and his daughter is frustrated In her attempt to kill the Englishman who is innocent.
