But by far the greatest number of families have been provided for in the individual family unit or single family residences. The tendency has been for a moderately Easti To the west we also find many new homes being built for men who work in the shops and who desire to live next their work, and as one leaves the district of the factory and the shop, he will find fresh, new sec- tions, bright and improved and indicating a progressive spirit even in this district. So that regardless of which way one may go the city boundaries are spreading out, building is going on beyond them, so that in a very short time new sections will have to be added to the Citys already large area and included as part of the community life of this wonderful metropolis. There has been a marked awakening also among the people as to the possibilities of landscape gardening and improving homes, remodeling them to become more convenient and also to improve their appearance. Old homes, far from being obsolete and unusable are being remodeled to more adequately serve their inr habitants and covered with a coat of stucco or paint or shingles so that, they also can be kept up in appearance with the newly built homes which are all around. Their gardens are growing and developing so that one may go in any direction and find the pleasing sight of a garden city. It is well that the people are recognizing the advantage of keeping their property painted, planted and improved, for these are the factors which tend to increase property values and help neighborhoods to continue to grow rather than to stand still and then to fall back, depreciating the properties which lie in the vicinity and soon being evacuated by the more progressive families moving to more progressive neighborhoods. The residents of Salt Lake should take great pride in civic beauty as it is a real investment as a community as well as individually. Manufacturers and investors of large money in pay-roland construction recognize in a well-kecity the stability of the people. The absence of slums and poor are indications of freedom from labor unrest, of enterprise, of industry, thrift and ambition and these are extremely important characteristics to any manufacturer or the employer of labor. It may be truly said therefore, that civic pride on the part of the citizens of Salt Lake may be the means of bringing new industries here and encourags, the ing the building up of thing that we all desire so much. ls pt pay-roll- |
