Show December, 1943 THE CENTERVILLE ? ? ? Newsing Around BEST NEWS Mr. and Mrs. Marvin J. Card-al- l, of Ogden, are rejoicing over the birth of a daughter on November 23 at the Dee Hospital. Marvin formerly lived in Centerville and is a son of Joseph E. Cardall, Ward Clerk. Earl Ford Hanson and Ralph William Streeper were ordained Deacons on November 28. A special Christmas Program is being arranged by the bishopric, the M. I. A. Recreation Committee, and the Ward Choir. Keith Randall and Richard Williams are now acting as assistant Scout Masters to Allan Beers in the Centerville First Ward troop. Mrs. Albert P. Thatcher (Donna Reeves) is living in Washington, D. C., to be near her husband who is stationed at Maryland. Donna is employed at the Postmaster Generals building in the Postal Savings Department and likes it very much. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence S. Reeves have just turned from a two-wee- ks re- visit with Donna. The former Emelyn Reading, now Mrs. Ralph Castleton, visited home for a short time and then went on with her husband to California, where he is awaiting further orders. Mrs. Frank White, formerly Melba Haacke, is home after being in Corpus Christi, Texas, for six months with her husband. He has been transferred to Gainsville, Georgia. The four larger groups of the Primary Association visited the with a bashomes of the shut-in- s ket of cheer for Thanksgiving. The officers of the Primary urge all parents of the ward to send their children to Primary, which is held every Wednesday at 4 o'clock, lasting until 5. The home of Raguel Barber is being rebuilt after the fire which caused an estimated $1000 damage. SONER We publish the following at the request of Clyde and Viola Smith, partly to express their gratitude for the kind words and wishes of the townsfolk when the parents first received word that their son Dale was missing in action, and partly as an example of the feelings of all of us. Even Friday evening, November the Relief Society room of our ward chapel was the scene of a lovely banquet for the ward girls from twelve to twenty. The tables were decorated with chrysanthemums and yellow and white candles. Carol Tingey comments, The centerpiece arrangement was really beautiful. Thirty-seve- n girls were served the delicious dinner of creamed chicken, carrots, mashed potatoes, hot rolls, salad, and ice cream a n d cookies. Shirley Streepers short, but enthusiastic, remark was, It was good After dinner the girls were taken to the show as guests of the ward. This affair was under the direction of Amelia Reeves, Edna France, Ella Evans, Norma Smith, Louise Grant, Maxine Reeves, and Mavis Clayton. 19, if better news hadn't arrived later, such a note as this one from the pen of Sister Thurza Adams would have done much to assuage the anxiety and grief of Dales loved ones. Dear friends, Clyde and la: I was deeply grieved a few days ago when I heard of the sad news you had received. But dont give up hope for you may soon be hearing from him again. You see my card is not edged in black, but silver, and I am sure there will be a silver lining to this dark cloud you are now passing through. So trust in God and be of good cheer and know that your friends are with you. Vio- Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Mann and daughter have moved into the small home of Horace H. Barber. Jex Barber, who now lives in California, visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Horace H. Barber on November 16. Letter-Writin- g Bee Scheduled Come on ,all you folks! Bring your pens and paper to the Church House on Sunday afternoon, December 12, at 2:30 o'clock. The names and addresses of all the boys and girls of the ward who are in the Service will be written on pieces of paper, put into a hat, and you will sit right down and write a nice, newsy letter to the person whose name you draw. You will probably draw the name of a person you wouldnt otherwise dream of writing to. And think how surprised and grateful that boy or girl will be to receive a letter from you! It will do something for both of you. Attention Singers Choir practice is held on Wednesday evenings at 8 oclock as usual in the chapel. Everyone in the ward who would like to come is invited. After serving for more than a year, Brother Kirk-hahas been released, but Brother Clyde McIntyre has consented to direct it, retaining Amelia White as organist. m |
