The proposed change would Mediation Potluck Friday, lune 24, 7 p.m. Guest: REESE FULLERTON Mediator, Santa Fe MEDIATION UPDATE: The CV Mediation Team is happily anticipating Reese’s visit and workshop sessions. He is transfer Line D of the “Permitted Uses” section to the “Conditional Uses” section of the ordinance. Presently, Line D permits “Schools, churches, cemeteries, parks, playgrounds, and arboretums” in Castle Valley. The LCT representative told of one small Utah town whose population is now 50% juvenile delinquents because the word “school” was in the permitted use section of that town’s zoning ordi- coming to do Saturday and Sunday it was suggested that all conditional use permits be given a specific term in years. This allows a community to phase out a use that may become a community problem ten or twenty years from now. The time periods could vary and be quite long, but there should be limits so that residents today don't deprive future residents of their right to choose what goes in their own community. Expect a long town Council meeting on July 6. —Jack Campbell Refrigerator nance, and the town could not turn workshops with those who have down the request for a huge school for been attending mediation team meetings since February. We are delighted to have a chance to ask questions and get advice and training about mediation proce— dures styled to our small town. Reese is very interested in meeting community members and excited by our efforts. The potluck will give everyone a chance to juvenile delinquents. At the last CV Town Council meeting an ordinance was enacted temporarily suspending any new applications under this section. This will allow CV residents to publicly discuss the issue without the town's being vulnerable to a quick application before a final decision is reached. The recommendation would visit, hear Reese’s thoughts on mediation, and ask questions firsthand. Potluck is Friday, 7 p.m., at Damian's and Linda's (lst R on West Bailey, across from the white ham—please park along the road.) Bring your own utensils and a dish to serve 6 to 8 people. For more information call Donovan Roberts, 259-2708. Public Hearing July 6th At the CV Town Council meeting on July 6 there will be a public hearing concerning a proposed change in the Castle Valley Zoning Ordinance. This transfer the whole line because of similar concerns regarding the definitions of “parks, playgrounds, and churches.” By placing this line in the Conditional Use section,” the community can influence what types of activities go on in CV. For public schools and churches we probably wouldn’t have much choice because of the higher authority of the state and the US Constitution, but the change would give some influence in other cases. It is also proposed to add language to the Conditional Usesection allowing a conditional use application to be rejected if the use seems to pose a threat to the health, safety, and welfare of the community, or incur unreason— able impact on neighbors. And while we're mentioning girths, how about a monthly recipe column? Here’s one for summer that's both of the above, from Barb Wherry of Tucson: Recipe to preserve children’s lives: Take one large, grassyfield, one half-dozen children, two or three small dogs, a pinch of creek and some pebbles. Mix children and dogs well together and put them in thefield stirring constantly. Pour the creek over the pebbles, sprinkle thefield with flowers, spread over all a deep, blue sky. and bake in the hot sun. When brown, remove and set to cool in the bathtub.
