Show CASTLE VALLEY TIMES VACATION TIMES Castle Valley, Utah - Volume _7, Number 2 OFFICE TRAILER PURCHASED If you have ever tried to do an important job without the proper tools or work space, you can identify with our Town Council, POA Board, and committees who have been making do since this community began to organize many years ago. A week before Christmas this began to change, with the delivery of a used office trailer to our community lot. This is not an ordinary trailer, but one specifically designed as office space. At last the Town and POA will —More TRAILER, p. 3 TELEPHONE CABLE WORK I Several years ago the telephone company did a major service up-grade to the Castle Valley phone lines. This was supposed to be adequate for many - February 1998 - POA COVENANTS The POA Board has preparedabrief questionnaire to find_out if POA members would like to change parts of the current POA Covenants. This year marks the 25th year of the CVRR POA and is the first time ' that POA members have the legal opportunity to modify the Covenants. The existing Covenants provide very few of the protections that members think they contain. Subdivision of lots and almost unlimited commercial development are allowed under the existing Covenants. If no changes are made to the cur- rent Covenants, they will be automatically renewed (by law) for another 10 years. Expect to receive a brief questionnaire in early March. Please fill out and return ASAP. Your comments on the back would also be appreciated (what other questions would you like to have asked on follow-up surveys?). increased commercial use of CV phone lines, “many years” arrived much sooner than anticipated. The phone company is once again running major cable expansions up and down Castle Valley Drive from Rim- shadow Lane, which leads up to the transmitter facility which broadcasts the phone signals up to Porcupine Rim and on to Moab. The phone company equipment is now working on sections of CV Drive. This work may take a couple of months to complete. The Great Ecliépse of ‘98 On Monday, Feb 2 th, a partial eclipse of the Sun will be visible from sections of the US. and Canada. This will occur around noon in the South— west. (Better yet, get yourselves down to the Caribbean where the spectacle will be at its maximum.) Only once a decade or so do all factors conspire for a really favorable eclipse. For our part of the world this is the last total solar eclipse for the next two decades. —Jennifer Redding TAKING TIME OUT! After six years of working On the CV Times each month, I finally took a break. Several things contributed beyond the need for a break. I finally have had to pay my dues to the medical folks after escaping their attentions for many years. A bit of surgery last December slowed me up more than I had expected. I thought I would be free to catch up on a lot of computer work, but I was mistaken. - With the election of a new Town Council last fall, there hasn’t been much going on and no sense of the direction of the new council. POA Board work has also taken a lot of time, between regular Board meetings, working on the revision of the Covenants with a survey to be sent out soon, and learning a couple of new computer programs for the POA . And lastly, a little bit of small town political harassing put the status of the CV Times in question for awhile. (More on this story later.) With years. Between increased phone line use for faxes, intemet connections, and the Taking a Break after Six Years SHAFER LANE _ CLOSURE The long suffering residents of Shafer Lane almost got their wish to have Shafer Lane physically closed. But just shy of the goal line, the Town Council once again faltered and grabbed at the chance to avoid making a that attack put to rest at the Planning Commission meeting last night, it’s time to get back to work. Since I’ve missed three months, all subscriptions will be extended for the same time. Easy to do when there are no costs except for the copying and postage. Particular appologies to those of decision. The last Town Council had passed you who just subscribed to the C V Times this fall—probably doesn’t seem like a very auspicious beginning. an ordinance closing Shafer Lane, but —Jack Campbell without a physical barrier of some kind, the traffic has continued. The issue was on the agenda again after a resident suggested a new ap— proach to fencing and gating the road. By putting the locked gate on the other side of the fire station, the fire trucks could still get to the Town without going through a locked gate. The parking lot side of the fire station would still be available to people driving in off the Loop Road. A bit more fencing would have to be put up, but not an unreasonable amount. Hopefully, the Council will find the gumption to get the job done, but, historically, the prognosis is not good. Maybe this Council will be better. DISINCORPORATION Merrill Brady reports that he has more than enough signatures to call the third disincorporation election. State Code stipulates that a petition bearing the signatures of 25 % of the number of voters in the last congressional election is sufficient to require a town to hold an election to decide whether or not to dissolve the town. Disincorporation elections can be held every two years, but not more often than that. Apparently several petitions are being circulated to obtain signatures. |
