Show THIRD SLIDE ADDS TO HORROR nineteen deaths and many injured a as result of avalanche lo 10 r idaho mining towns spokane nash it lt was learned monday that a third avalanche aza aia lanche in adal tion to those at mace and burke idaho des destroyed troed the mining camp of the carbonate 1111 mining company near the 8 bridge at buisan miu idaho about noon sunday three were killed and one body has been recovered at mace twelve were ere killed while at least forty were injured sone of whom may not recover four are known to have met death at mace white while three were injured the first slide was that which wiped out almost all of the town of mace thie this catastrophe occurred at 10 45 sunday night while all the population except the men on the night shift in the standard and in the other mines in the locality wern sleeping the burke avalanche occurred at 5 30 20 monday morning mace Is situated on the creek bed and the mountains rise on either side of the canyon the slopes have bave been well denuded of trees by the mine the main body of the avalanche ava ranche which started from the top of ouster custer mountain passed beyond the town and striking the opposite slope with terrific berj force rushed up the mountain side the canyon Is olla fill d up to a depal of from forty to feltt feet so far thirty men women and chil dren have been rescued from the mace slide and the men are working des per pera tely in an effort to succor those who may possibly be alive at carbondale hill where the third slide occurred two are dead and halt a dozen men aro are injured A slide at dorsey ida Is reported to have caused the abath death of two men and at adair a third man Is reported to have been killed by a slide by a ead sad caprice of fate four of those who lost their lives at burke were r of t the rescue party which bad had been at work at night at mace |
